using unlocked GSM touch with at&t

So the girl wants to get rid of her tilt and get a GSM touch, but had bad experiences trying to use an unlocked black jack with AT&T's internet. Anyone know what I would have to do to make sure she has working internet with this GSM touch? Anybody try this yet?
