how to back up phone

I have a Moto Q 9c. Not much on it now, but soon most of my life will probably be on it. How do I back things up in case something bad happens to the phone?

Install activesync, install outlook if you don't already have it. Connect your phone with the USB cable and let the magic happen.

Of course, this is explained about 4 different ways in the documentation that came with your device.
