Exactly. I think Vista was so disappointing because they couldn't do the rewrite that was called for without risking backwards compatibility so they ended up doing a half-assed job leaving out all kinds of things that they were planning to implement. Vista seems more like a .5 release than a full release. If they wanted to justfiy the long development time and the upgrade cost, they really needed a full update a-la OS9 to OSX. It's a real shame they didn't pull it off. It's been a while since I wasn't eager to update my windows computers to the new version. The last time it happened was WinME and I installed that only to go back to 98SE a few weeks later. This time I just worked on other people's Vista computers and read enough to know that there wasn't enough offered to make it worth my money or time.
I'm getting off topic here but the point is that you sometimes need a 3rd party without the vested interest in order to put out something completely new.
