contrary to my last thread about wm7 being released this year.. I am all but calling windows mobile dead.. I was hoping that it would at least be shown but it wasn't even spoke of..So far I say palm had the best ces with everything that's going on with their platform. Here's basically everything microsoft spoke on..

I am sticking with LG and HTC on this one. Okay though great random post to start a fairly useless argument which you argue against major companies that produce the phones and released official statements saying Winmo 7 was comming and sight a summary of the conference. Because he didnt discuss it its dead? I suppose anyhing else microsoft is working on that he didnt discuss is dead also.

Wow, you're calling WM dead because of the little mention of it at the CES?!!? I imagine more was not mentioned for two reasons: 1- there is not much to talk aboout with WM6.1 & 6.5 (nothing really new), and 2- Microsoft is obviously working pretty hard at keeping WM 7 under tight wraps and I imagine they want to continue to do so until closer to the release.

Honestly, WM is still my favorite of all mobile OSes. I own a TP2, iPhone 3G, and Palm Pre., my wife has a Moment. iPhone is SUPER smooth and very user friendly but lacks basic functionality that make it difficult to call it a PPC. WebOS is quite innovative, though I get bored with it and I am not convinced it will survive. Finally, Android has mind and market share like crazy, I'm not really feeling it a whole lot but I will spend more time with it.

Does that include "ugly" Android?

Yeah I think you are right. They are keeping it secret so Google, Apple, RIM, and Palm don't copy any new innovations they have before they put it out there. Chances are WM7 will have some huge innovations and they knew it would so to keep it secret was smart.

See, your statement is also speculation. What if wm7 comes out and it's not revolutionary or innovative at all?

The op has only valid observations that we can all agree on. The fact is, we're already into the next generation of smart phones, MS doesn't have the luxury of ****ing around for a whole year while Android spreads like crazy and gets ahead. It's a pretty well known fact that Apple is working on the next iteration of iPhone.

You can't prove to me that whatever MS has under wraps is innovative and revolutionary. And in this kind of climate, no news is bad news, even a simple leak to keep people on edge is better than nothing at all.

next month is the big mobile phone convention...i will wait and see but i dont understand how google is rapidly updating there OS and MS isnt...if im not shown what windows 7 can do next month or some sliver of hope its the next greatest thing to scarlet johanssons ass then im jumping ship to android....

ya'll forgetting about world mobile congress? Balmber himself stated this is for a later date and it will all discuss zune hd, wm7, tv on devices (shown with HD2 during CES keynote) for the wmc. Microsoft is merely choosing their battles because they are a huge corporation and have other more specific markets to worry about in CES while another trade show is dedicated to the wm7

The reason is obvious: MS themselves said not to expect WM7 until late 2010/early 2011.

This will inevitably get pushed back AGAIN. Thus, CES 2011 is a more appropriate venue for them to preview the OS.

In the meantime, the diehards will continue to hang on to WM, insisting its the best.

"I love WM, all I have to so is solder in a new chip, reporgram it with a custom ROM, rip the guts out, add a new processor, skin it, and order a new housing and it does EXACTLY what I want. Its so customizable".

I'm sure if you look hard enough, you can find someone that prefers DOS to Windows 7. "All I do is type in this "dir" thingy,. and look at all that text. Seriously, you just can't get that sharp of a text with newer models..."

Thank you..I try my best to make my opinion based off of facts. To the person that posted behind me I would like to say you sound stupid. Microsoft hasn't announced that their os is coming this year.. Their last announcement delayed it. Only one company said it was coming yet they couldn't even show a spec sheet of any device of theirs that would run it, let alone any screens. Yet your right the phone manufacturer knows better than the company actually making the OS. On top of that why would microsoft allow someone else make such a huge announcement. If they're keeping it such a big secret and underwraps how come you know so much? Lol you don't, do you have any screenshots? No. Any leaked roms? No. Any hardware said to be running windows phone 7? No. Lol I figured you didn't, you're only speculating and rambling on with hardly any tangible evidence to back your claims up. Even apple who hasn't officially announced the next iphone was at least peeking the interest of many when it was shown that testing was being done in california of a mobile device....this is at least something that they've done before. So far,anything that has leaked microsoft has pulled(pics) or denied. It's hard to keep interest in something you never see or hear.

Yes it's considered news. It's tied to the consumer electronics show. That is why there's a link to microsoft's part of the show. Things that aren't spoke of or done are just as important as those that are. Anything that informs the reader/viewer is news. On top of that if you don't like the thread why are you reading and commenting? I hate when people complain about why are certain threads in existence yet they participate in them.

I agree with you that those things will be discussed further next month. Usually things announced at the ces are those that will be released that year. This is why I feel that microsoft has really delayed until next year. Just was trying to hold out hope.

It's an opinion, I feel the way I do based off what I see and hear. I stick by my claim,everyone is speaking like I said the OS was cancelled lol. It's seems as though alot of people can't take it when someone doesn't see things the way they do. Let me clarify a little, by dead I meant that windows won't have the #1,#2 or maybe even #3 spot with windows mobile 7(please don't include older versions). Not this decade, it just isn't going to happen. Not with them(microsoft) being anywhere from 1-4 years behind other os'. Say what you want about apple,rim,google or palm. Those companies all have os' that are out now. They're constantly growing and the same simply can't be said for windows. I don't even like apple yet they've sold over 30million iphones. With as many people as that sounds, it's still hasn't peeked because it's locked to certain carriers. Right now windows mobile has nothing to lay claim to other than fanboys and loyalists. You people need to learn to accept the fact that everyone doesn't feel the same as you. There's no need to get an attitude because my opinion is different from yours. I have a touch pro2 and palm pre so I'm not biased towards any OS.

its not news. its speculative opinion - and baseless in that lg has already announced wm7 is coming this year. Its baseless because balmer announced mobile platforms for next month. Honestly its dead regardless of when winmo 7 comes out. winmo is already so far behind and it amazes me being that they had practically a 5 year head start on the other smart phones out now. Hell by the time winmo 7 drops we'll have android phones out of the ass. Take away manila or the fact that a lot of people use mobile shell to cover up winmos crappy interface and you see winmo for what it really is...

WM is not inferior to the other OS out there, WM is different from them. First there was the iphone, then the others, android, web os tried to be just like them and they are decent OS's and good for many reasons, but they are entertainment oriented. WM is not centered around that, they are a business based device, not some phone that they are expecting you to put a thousand apps on.

win mobile is awesome technology just needs to catch up with it and snapdragon processors will be the key especially the dual core one coming out later this year I will take winmo over the rest android and web os are newer and look diffrent and seem better but win mo will always be my first choice.

well, good thing microsoft does not go down without a fight. even if that fight is brought about in a less than legal way, at the end of the day they have the financial power (and all that comes with it) to not go down without a fight.

i wonder exactly how many companies microsoft has bankrupted in the court system, bought, or completely dismantled just to make a point. i remember in the 80's and 90's when ms wanted something they got it regardless of cost even if they had to use the court to accomplish their goals.

WM is not going to just fade away, it will just have a lesser marketshare, it's always this way in many industries, someone is the innovator and then others come out with other similar products that Improve on various aspects of the original and take marketshare or even help grow the entire market, it's called Capitalism....duhhhh.

I read the thread because I was under the assumption there was actual "factual" news tied to the thread and not the ramblings of a disgruntled WM owner.

The fact is Windows Mobile is not dead and you saying anything else is purely conjectural. Feel free to speak your mind, we'll listen, but post those opinions in the correct area. :?

if you're going to make such a bizarre and damning accusation you may want to post some actual facts or case histories to back it up. I don't "remember" any of that stuff but what I DO remember is that Bill Gates busted his ass to get where he is and he didn't luck his way or inherit a trust fund to build an empire. without MS we wouldn't even be having these forums up. I'm not saying MS has never been unscrupulous in their dealings but like Phil Jackson once said about my Rockets "give him some #$%^ing credit, ok?"

Personally I don't like apple products all that much but I still give credit to steve for his ingenuity and his ability to build such a successful enterprise.

It's real easy to player hate, but try starting a business and then come back and talk to me. We can all sit here and say what they "should" do but if many of us were running MS it would have tanked a long time ago. MS didn't get to where it is by listening to people who had no experience in actual business.

Being that as it may, as consumers we have the right to complain, especially since PPCG members are probably very largely responsible for advertising and purchasing WM products and development (along with xda), but just try to keep the full picture in mind.

So far this thread is the biggest fail of the year. The year is new though so it my not hold.
Can you please now say Sprint will never get the HD2 because given how this thread went with our luck if you say it we may get notice its comming to Sprint later tonight or tomorrow.

Of course thats just my opinion on this thread and I am allowed to have it.

Sure wm looks out dated when not wrapped in a pretty ui. I will give you that.
Then again, Andoid usually comes wrapped in a pretty ui as well.
The look doesn't take away from the fact it is powerful and does just about everything the others are trying to do.

Microsoft will bring more to the table.

I too would rather take WM over any of the other OS but at the same time compared to the rest they seem to be sliding in to a dark place with the slow development. for the most part I think he feels this way because Sprint and WM are not providing the way they are for the other carriers... HD2, Omagio, 6.5 update.... stuff like that but come Feb we will all see... Just keepin it 100

when it comes down to it....unless WM starts lettin open development, they are gonna loose people to android/webos/apple. if you look at most apps, even free ones, they're for everything but WM...I really think that is a big part of their downfall...tho you might think apps are gimmicks, I think they could really save WM

He is simply saying that WM might be dead in terms of popularity and I agree with him. He thinks this because Microsoft had basically nothing to say about the new OS for the upcoming year.
Its a pretty reasonable opinion.

I agree with him because if you look at WM in terms of popularity, apps, and its UI, it is safe to say that is is lagging behind its competitors.
Lets face it, many consumers would rather have Android, iPhone, WebOS and maybe (just maybe) the new Blackberry OS before they think about WM. Its just the way consumers feel at this point.
In terms of apps, I know many argue that WM is meant for business and not entertainment BUT if Microsoft thought that then they would have never made the Marketplace. I think Microsoft sees that in order to make WM more popular they needed to balance out the entertainment as well as the business aspects of the phone. When you talk about apps in themselves, I have seen many sites that have apps for Android, Blackberry and iPhone but they leave WM completely in the dark. (I wish they wouldnt do this!)
Finally its UI. Consumers are at the point where "flashy" matters. They want a phone that looks attractive not only hardware wise, but software wise too. And WM, software wise, is just not there yet. (6.5 is going in the right direction though.)

I love my HTC Touch, but I would be lying if I told you that I didnt think about jumping to the Android. However, with Microsoft saying that they will show off WM7 in Feb, then I may wait to see what it looks like.

me personally i love wm.. and to me its the best os. if your willing to put time into it..to get it where u want it.

dont care for apple. liked bb but get boring to quick.. webos.( pre ) I loved.. but cheaply built...android is to me. a nice os.. with options much like wm.. the hero even reminds me of my old vogue in a way...

but im waiting to see what comes out for sprint this year.. for wm or palm...before i jump back to either one..

but if palm comes out with something like the hd2 but with webos. on sprint im sooo there...

not some oh I'll slip some news in there to state my negativity for the trend in wm. There is a general discussion for that...and its not being used because lo and behold there is a thread like that there...

Going to slightly disagree here. WM does have as much open development as google thanks to ppcgeeks and xda developers. While the beta builds of wm are going a bit stale, they will pick back up again I don't see any issue in that whatsoever. But what I believe is killing microsoft is the advertising. Keep in mind that wm does have a fanbase - that is shown with the sales of the vzw touch pro 2. Not even verizon expected that the unit would sell out not once, not twice, not three times, but four times! For a device that isn't announced, not commercialized in any htc commercials, that in itself is downright stupendous. Windows mobile does a lot of things right - except advertising. I don't think the google android os is superior to windows mobile at all - in fact like the iphone, if you have work to do on the device, it is one of the worst mobile devices to use. Windows mobile still has its supporters but what is needed is a cunning and decisive advertising campaign. And that is something windows mobile never had. Ever.

I think that is the fault of wm itself. Heck even engadget is saying what we all said for months
