Re: Consumer Reports: iPhone 4 = Design Flaw
Last thing I'll say is this. When the first news came of the first Iphone, I was thrilled. I was sooo excited and was planning on getting it no matter what. But when I read through the specs and saw that it only operated on ATTs edge network, it had me confused. They are coming out with this powerhouse of a phone and it doesn't run on 3G? Doesn't have MMS either? And I remember Apples response, which I think was Steve Jobs. "Well, not having 3G is not a big issue cause there are so many WI-FI hotspots you really don't need it" . Which was far from the truth. Oh yeah, and ATT's plans were ridiculously higher than Sprints. I just could not bring myself to pay significantly more for a phone that to me had significant features missing. I'm not going to deny it does some great things, but yeah I'll say it, I do not like the way Apple tries to convince people what they think they need and don't need and how they try to hide the truth.

However, I still like the iphone, its still a fantastic device, too bad the company itself is arrogant being run by some jerk. Google is no better either, they are starting to get arrogant too and have way too much info on people. I guess any company that gets too large becomes like that, just look at Verizon for a perfect example.

I think that Google is slightly better because they don't lock down their phones or censor apps abusively like Apple does. The only app Google killed so far was one for legal reasons, I'd delete something as well before I let myself get sued too. I can live with the lack of privacy (lessor of the two evils), because I have little to hide, I can't stand Apple and it's app store dictatorship. Forget about it using the iPhone in a truly profession sense, neat toy though or semi-smart phone, excellent piece of hardware (barring the recent antenna problems)... |

Companies aren't going to spend any time and money developing custom apps for their employees if there is any chance that Apple is going to deny them. I think we paid about $30,000 for one of the apps our admissions department uses, image what would have happened to my job if Apple rejected it. We have about 200 smartphones in our organization, due to Apple's dictatorship rules I can never recommend a phone that we can't even control ourselves. Apple won't even allow us an app that is individually approved by a enterprise level customer. Android seems to be the next logical phone OS that can be customized in the amount of detail that I.T. professionals need. I'm glad that the iPhone works for you but in Fortune 500 type companies, it's either a Blackberry or Windows Mobile (for now) and soon to be Android type phones. |

Re: Consumer Reports: iPhone 4 = Design Flaw
I personally don't like Blackberry's but I can't deny their popularity in the business world. Of the 5 friends that I know that work in Fortune 500 companies they all use Blackberry's not iPhones, WM or Android OS's. I refuse to pay for the server that's needed to manage those devices and right now WM 6.x is meeting our needs for our limited budget. I will say though that they are highly customizable devices and meet or exceeds most business needs and also remember that the Secret Service certified a Blackberry for President Obama. No other phone vendor can say that their phone is that secured as of yet. So you gotta give it some props...
