Another nifty app if you phone is jailbroken.
Intelliscreen allows you to see some information while at your lockscreen. The info you can set to show is: calendar appts, SMS messages, e-mail, weather, news, sports.
You can set various options for each, can arrange and resize each one to how you like.
It's pretty nifty, deffinately worth a try.

attached are some screen shots of what intelliscreen looks like, well how I have it set up on mine.
You even view the e-mails without having to unlock you phone, it's pretty nifty.

Yea, open the intelliscreen app, and go to "view layout". At the bottom of the screen there, you can choose what it shows, and the upper portion you can resize what is shown and place them where you want.

Yeah, right now it's a bit crowded, so I'm gonna play around to get it settled down a bit, but I do like having that extra info there.

What I like also is that for the mail, you can read and delete messages without unlocking the phone

You get it all configured how you want it?

It is still quite crowded. I am currently using a program called lockinfo.

intelliscreen tells me more, but is quite cluttered, and lockinfo is minimal. I think i prefer intelliscreen but i need to spend some time taking care of it.
