Is Google still destroying my contact photos, and is there a fix ?

All photos on my incoming calls look like total POS. As I understand this is a problem on Google contacts end ? Is there a known fix ?

Because this is my first Android phone and I would think that the people who's used them for a while would know if the problem is on Google's end, or my end.

No. It's not changing the picture itself, but rather it's changing the high-res photos to really low-res ones that look awful on the incoming call screen.

I have never been able to fix it. I think it's on google's side

yeah, this has been an issue since the beginning of Android....

This is the issue with all the android phones and try to use synchax app.

Hey Amamba
The pics that your Android phone shows in your contacts are the thumbnails of the actual account images of your contacts. Even if you personalize contact images from your phone or Google account, your phone will create a thumbnail image for the same.
This is done basically to improve the performance of your phone. Thumbnails consumes approx 1 to 2 KB while regular images are much heavier, if the device will load images of regular size then you will find your phone much slower.
So be satisfied with thumbnails in your contacts and enjoy the performance.

Install the photo for your contacts again from your phone by editing the profile. The pictures will look fine and I've not noticed any performance issues from it.
