calender issues

I am still working on setting up my Thunderbolt (1st android device), I am having an issue with duplicate items from my gmail calender. I did some research and tried a couple things but cant seam to fix it. The calender on line is correct however most (but not all) items are duplicated. I removed the calender from the device by unchecking the box for the gmail calender in the calender settings (everything was removed) then synced, then re-added the calender, and it was just as when I removed it. Do I need to completely delete it? I just imported the items from Outlook via a CSV file so starting over on it wouldn't be a big deal. On that same subject I did import the calender twice at first and everything was duplicated in gmail but then I cleaned it out and re imported. The part that baffles me the most is that, it isn't everything that is duplicated (about 90%) and some of the duplicates don't have a reminder on them. Any thoughts and help would be appreciated.
