Re: Am I a PPC/Android Device Snob?
Your question is silly overall..its like why do Americans drive SUVs/Vans even though they cost them more, take more gas, are less safe and they never use the space anyways...
The answer is simple...ppl in America want the BIGGEST and BESTEST without knowing why..its a marketing thing thats been brainwashing people for years...get used to the reality of things >.> Quote:

Re: Am I a PPC/Android Device Snob?
yeah when my boss and a co-worker got Epics, I didn't even bother telling them about xda and ppcg, they just wouldn't be into all that. I'm one of the only people I know who knows how to modify/hack/jailbreak/unlock Android, WM6.x, iOS, and WP7, pretty much every variant of every phone, but I usually do pretty well just giving enough info and offering services a little at a time and only when really needed.
For instance I had a friend on tmobile who really wanted an iPhone, so I offered to jailbreak and unlock the phone, and added that I could put in a customized boot-screen and even theme it to look like an HTC desire and could even put animated weather if they wanted. Others like sticking to stock so I don't bother. I wasn't about to tell my boss to root his phone and get launcher pro for an aosp look or anything like that, I just told him he shouldn't use ATK unless he's force closing specific apps and gave him some suggestions on a few apps and widgets. You just need to be aware of who you're talking to and what their needs really are. If I knew someone with an HD2 who didn't like WM6.x and wanted a "new phone" I'd be like "which OS do you want, because as long as it's not iOS you can do anything" and link him to my WP7 flash thread or Android flashing/SD threads. I've gotten a few bored looks talking over people's heads about this stuff so I pretty much just sit back and wait for them to ask something. as far as the Epic being better than the Evo, well that's pretty subjective. Personally I'd take the Evo because: 1) too bulky + I HATE hardware keyboards. 2) cannot put Sense on an Epic, the porting project has been abandoned for lack of success. Personally I like aosp/CM more, but I still like to play with Sense HD ROMs, or at least keep it on my SD card when I want to roll eye-candy. 3) HDMI out.- I like to play emulators using the wii/ps3 remote on my phone and watch shows/movies at times, having a possibility of outputting it in good quality would be pretty sweet. 4) OMJ roms :) 5) the epic feels like cheap plastic. I know this point is really arbitrary and what-not, but for me it's an issue. Right now I use this awesome metal backed and nice glass HD2, and I just hate the feeling of the galaxy phones. but again, the Epic has a better CPU and does have a s-amoled screen, which are the only 2 hardware things that are "better" Just comes down to what you prefer. |
Re: Am I a PPC/Android Device Snob?
Still here???
I'm surprized! LOL... I would like a metal back for my EVO... That would be nice. p. |

Re: Am I a PPC/Android Device Snob?
meh,
gorilla glass is overrated (just like in the iphone 4) and costs a bitch and half to replace. GPU kinda goes along with the better cpu (implied). My boss has an epic sitting on his desk right now and it is NOT thinner than my HD2... as far as I can tell the Sense porting has been abandoned, whether or not froyo source is released, we'll have to wait and see, but overall the Evo and HD2 get much more Android development than the Epic does. I've been running a fully stable CM7 ROM on my HD2 for a while now. I'm not saying the Epic doesn't have some cool shit, It's not a bad phone at all, but for my money, if i WERE on Sprint, I'd rock an Evo. Thankfully I own the only phone on the planet that can dual-boot WP7 and Android 2.3.2 :) |
Re: Am I a PPC/Android Device Snob?
I'm on Sprint...
I went to upgrade my phone... I stood in front of the guy and asked to see both phones... It was a very difficult choice... Ultimately the EVO went home with me. Why? Cuz I chose it. Not cuz it's better or worse or this that or the other... I made my decision based on MY criteria. Yours might be different and guess what? There's a phone for you and one for me... ON THE SAME NETWORK too!!! If you want something different... There are other networks that would love to take your money too... We all have choices... And regardless of what is better and what is worse... We all pick based on what we want. So I'm not sure why the different camps. But That's just how it is... So what evs. I'll just enjoy my EVO while it's still on the cutting edge. And then I'll replace it with something I like even more... p. |

Thats like when you say you can multiboot boot wp7 and android and other oses on HD2...well Epic can boot Ubuntu and Android..so they are the same right? both boot multiple OSes... Quote:

agreed, I would love an Evo with a hummingbird and s-amoled. I can boot a bunch on my HD2. Currently: Android (any version, right now using CM7 Gingerbread) WP7 (fully featured) WM6.5(.x) (of course) Windows XP (can't access internet yet, but it's pretty damn usable) Windows 95/98 (see above, just runs faster) ubuntu (fully featured) soon: MeeGo (porting is in Alpha, but moving along) I am sticking with this phone until some seriously better shit comes along. The only phone I would switch to over this is the Nexus S |
