While I agree in general that task managers are not alway helpful I do know some programs create problems when left running. Also my phone is slower when the memory is low, just like it was in windows mobile. If you use Watchdog you can see how some programs are using cpu resources which results in battery usage. What Watchdog also shows you is how most programs do just sit idle with no cpu usage, so I think in general terms you are correct and you should not have to use a task manager but some programs continue to use resources which is sloppy and this causes the need to use task managers.
