As for now in terms of Specs Droid X is a bit better then an Evo..but in therms of specs Galaxy S devices win both..

And on that comparison...it has a few mistakes in there..

The choices for a phone has to boil down to what exactly you plan to use the device for..I mean similar to computers...you dont build a core i7 extreme with quad sli 485 cards, and 32gb ram just to read emails faster >.> lol
I agree about the LTE, but the Desire HD looks nice! For my own knowledge, can you elaborate further on where the Fascinate has better specs? I understand maybe the Super AMOLED screen, but is there anything else?

I see the Droid X has 8GB internal memory, Fascinate has 2.
8MP camera vs. 5MP (though I'm not sure that means better quality, maybe more noise)
Droid X has Bluetooth 2.1, Fascinate has Bluetooth 3.0
Droid X has more microphones for better noise cancellation, and video recording
Droid X has twice as many LED flashes (LOL, this one was for fun).

Here is another site comparison. http://www.phonescoop.com/phones/compare.php?id[]=2763&id[]=2836&id[]=&id[]=&id[]=

Yes, Fascinate has 2 (original galaxy s had 16 >.>)...both also come with 16gb sd cards..usually thats enough for most people..but that depends on your use.

I'll tell you this the pics on the 5mp is really good and on par with droid x..but the ones on the Galaxy S are compressed..if you use another Camera app that doesn't compress the quality is better.

This is true for talking..but for recording video and audio Fascinate would win...there was a video showing this but I need to find it :/

It can have 3 LEDs..or 5..makes no difference if it aint a XenFlash >.>

There are other advantages such as Hummingbird is better then the OMAP..and GPU is better in the Fascinate.

Also Fascinate has 6 axis accelerometer...

And also has native divx and xvid support via hardware decode.

Re: Droid X, Fascinate, or ???

So I just spend over an hour hogging the Fascinate and the Droid X demo phones at the Verizon store. Here is my take on them.

Camera:

Fascinate seems to take a crisper, more "digital camera" like picture, where the Droid X takes a really really nice camera phone picture. The panoramic on the Fascinate is interesting how it works (scroll the phone and it auto takes a pic). I didn't test the video quality, but I'm sure they are very similar.

Hardware:

Upon first impression, the Fascinate looks like an older iPhone with 4 bottom touch buttons (sorry, it just does).
- It also feels a bit plasticy (sp?) and cheap , and it does feel noticeably lighter than the Droid X.
- The volume buttons pressed a little too easily, maybe they stick out a little too far, and are easy to press.
- I like how the Droid X has a dedicated camera button that has 2 clicks - focus and capture. Fascinate has no button.
- The hardware buttons on the front of the Droid X compared to the on-screen buttons on the Fascinate are all preference. They both function and press well.
- The data port is on the side of the Droid X, where it is on the top of the Fascinate. No big deal, but my concern is for a car dock. The Droid X car dock looks nice, but the Verizon sales rep said there is also a Fascinate car dock.
- Droid X has HDMI out, Fascinate does not (I don't care about this. I have an HTC video out cable for the last 2 years from the TP1, and never, ever used it except to show it off).
- I held the Fascinate most of the time next to the Droid X. I probably should have tried to hold both.
- The LED flash works great on both. Didn't matter that the Droid X had 2 LED's. I installed an LED flashlight app on both phones (took me a few tries to find on that works on the Fascinate), and they both worked great. The Droid X is a bit yellowish, and the Fascinate has a cool white look. (I wonder if that affects the color of the picture when flash is involved...)
- Both phones are very close in overall dimensions. Droid X is a bit bulkier though (especially with that camera lip).

Screen:

- The screen on the Fascinate is wider than the Droid X, but shorter. I like the wider better.
- 4.0" size on the Fascinate compared to 4.3" on the Droid X, but it's really not a huge difference except the Droid X screen is taller and thinner.
- I browsed the internet on both phones, and they both show just about the same content (I went to PocketNow.com). The Droid X formatted the text better than the Fascinate to where I could actually read the text in full zoom out mode. Fascinate is not legible in full zoom out mode. Comparing the two, it's because of the font format. Maybe it's a software thing.
- The skin of Android 2.1 on the Fascinate seemed a bit different than the skin of Android 2.1 on the Droid X. I turned up full brightness on both phones, and the Droid X seemed to have a brighter backlight (maybe it was just the skin).
- To compare the screens, I ran Angry Birds and Blow Up (installed from the market), and yes. I could definitely tell a difference between the two. Fascinate looked much more vivid and colorful. The Droid X looks like the colors stayed out in the sun too long and were faded a bit. A very noticeable difference.

- Both were very quick and responsive, but the internet was not impressive on the Fascinate. It was just regular cell phone 3G speeds (I tested it at MobileSpeedTest.com and got 600k download). I think something was wrong with the Droid X, because it was horribly slow on the internet. Horribly. ...horribly. Downloading Blow Up took maybe 10 minutes, where it was a few seconds on the Fascinate, so I think there was a problem with that particular phone.

Not sure what else to compare. I personally am leaning towards the Fascinate now after playing with the phones. My only gripe is it feels cheap and light. Other than that, it's an awesome phone.

Hope this helps out some people.

Note: The 'p' button on my keyboard is messed up, so if I am missing a 'p' somewhere, sorry. hoe = hope, seed = speed, etc...

Re: Droid X, Fascinate, or ???

Great write up WhiteBlazer01 i had the X for a few weeks until Verizon seemed to not want to work out my contract but that a different story. So today i added a new line to my account and got the Fascinate and honestly i love both phones about equal. The depth and color that comes from the Fascinate is so vivid and perfect but i still miss my Droid X. I do have to agree with you on the camera button on the Droid X very nice having a committed button for that and also being able to hold it down part way to focus in. All in All good review.

Re: Droid X, Fascinate, or ???

I really appreciate this thread, as I'm going through the same process. I have a Touch Pro and I'm now eligible for upgrade. I had intended to wait for a possible iPhone or Windows Phone early next year, but I'm giving up on that -- by the time such beasts come out, I'll probably be eligible to upgrade again.

I plan to follow the advice about hands-on, but would appreciate any thoughts/experience on same specific uses/apps on either device. I've used my TP (and before that 6700) like mini-PCs for years, and now I'm looking to add some iPad-like functionality, too.

Key apps/uses for me are:
Docs to Go (or other MS Office equivalent)
Exchange syncing (need Tasks as well as Calendar, Contacts, Email)
Note-taking (something OneNote-like)
LogMeIn
Slingplayer
Ereaders (eReader and Kindle)
Google Reader
Zinio (I've heard its on Fascinate, but may be tab only)
Music, esp. WMA files
Light games (Spider, Freecell, Tetris, etc.)
Free tethering (WMWiFiRouter equivalent)
Possible to use BT Stowaway keyboard with either?
Any handwriting possible?
Any OTA file syncing with Windows?

I'm a little concerned about not having a keyboard, but not a deal-breaker. Don't particularly care about texting, social networking, photos/video.

Any thoughts appreciated!

Re: Droid X, Fascinate, or ???

I just upgraded from the TP2 to the fascinate.

First I'd like to say I don't miss the keyboard. With the voice recognition and swipe, I can easily enter text and it fits so well in my pocket.

I'm just trying to figure out all the new programs. It's sort of a huge learning curve leaving wmo.

Re: Droid X, Fascinate, or ???

If you aree actuallu going to use the smartphone as a...well...a phone. Go to the store and make a few calls on them. I was amazed by the difference. The X is far superior to the rest (DInc, D2, and SF).

Ordered my X, and now waiting...impatiently!
