Windows Mobile ---> Android: Who has made the switch?

With the almost certain release of the Supersonic on Sprint, I am seriously thinking of making the switch from Windows Mobile (TP2 user now) to Android.

I use my phone mainly for Exchange mail and GMail, web-browsing and texting. I do like having the ability to tether as a backup if my ISP goes down or if I am using my laptop when I travel (which is very rare).

So, anyone who has gone from WM to Android, and not been happy? I know I can always try it and switch back, but I am on a SERO plan with Sprint, and once I make the switch to Android, I will lose SERO and there is no getting it back.

Thanks!

I switched from Winmo to Android and havent looked back. The experience has been so smooth and not such a headache.

I used WinMo for almost five years exclusively. I switched from the TP2 to the Moment in January and will never go back. I am also waiting for the Supersonic... might be interested in the Nexus One as well.

I use mine for Exchange and Gmail. Web browsing is fast and good. Also, there are quite a few free sms/mms apps that you can use instead of the built-in one. There is a way to do hidden tethering if you are rooted and many, many members say that it works well.

I've said it before and I'll say it again, I'll never go back to WinMo. I have seen plenty about WinPho 7 and I am not impressed. Android is very fast, very stable, very customizable and just plain works when you want/need it to.

You are welcome :)

I agree, WP7 does not impress me. Plus, I am pretty married to the Google experience (Google for search, GMail, reader, docs, and I prefer their maps application to mobile Bing), so it seems like a smart move. Especially since major third-party support for WP 6.5 seems to be dying out.

It sounds like you're going from HTC Touch Flo to HTC Sense, which will be fine and welcomed.

I switched from the Diamond (Flashed with WinMo 6.5.5 and SenseUI) to the Hero (running Android 1.5 with SenseUI) and I really didn't notice much of a difference from a usability standpoint. Things are layed out a little differently, but I'm very happy with the switch. Looking forward to Android 2.1 and perhaps a faster processor (Supersonic), but if you're going from one HTC device to another, you have nothing to fear, regardless of OS.

I agree with the two quoted above me

I ran WM exclusively also and then made a switch from the TP2 to the Samsung Moment... no regrets what-so-ever

Coming from a slide out qwerty keyboard I wanted my next phone to have that same feature that's why I didn't go with the Hero

Make the switch and you too will be happy, no more flashing just to get functionality out of your phone!

Re: Windows Mobile ---> Android: Who has made the switch?

What I really desire is more consistent performance. One day my TP2 will run like a charm. The next, I get lag or have to do a soft reset, or my battery will last 18 hours one day and 8 the next, with similar usage.

I just want things to work smoothly and consistently. I can't seem to get that from WM (stock 6.1 ROM running SPB MS3.5)
