Windows Mobile ---> Android: Who has made the switch?
With the almost certain release of the Supersonic on Sprint, I am seriously thinking of making the switch from Windows Mobile (TP2 user now) to Android.
I use my phone mainly for Exchange mail and GMail, web-browsing and texting. I do like having the ability to tether as a backup if my ISP goes down or if I am using my laptop when I travel (which is very rare). So, anyone who has gone from WM to Android, and not been happy? I know I can always try it and switch back, but I am on a SERO plan with Sprint, and once I make the switch to Android, I will lose SERO and there is no getting it back. Thanks! |
Re: Windows Mobile ---> Android: Who has made the switch?
I switched from Winmo to Android and havent looked back. The experience has been so smooth and not such a headache.

Re: Windows Mobile ---> Android: Who has made the switch?
I agree, WP7 does not impress me. Plus, I am pretty married to the Google experience (Google for search, GMail, reader, docs, and I prefer their maps application to mobile Bing), so it seems like a smart move. Especially since major third-party support for WP 6.5 seems to be dying out.

Re: Windows Mobile ---> Android: Who has made the switch?
It sounds like you're going from HTC Touch Flo to HTC Sense, which will be fine and welcomed.
I switched from the Diamond (Flashed with WinMo 6.5.5 and SenseUI) to the Hero (running Android 1.5 with SenseUI) and I really didn't notice much of a difference from a usability standpoint. Things are layed out a little differently, but I'm very happy with the switch. Looking forward to Android 2.1 and perhaps a faster processor (Supersonic), but if you're going from one HTC device to another, you have nothing to fear, regardless of OS. |

I ran WM exclusively also and then made a switch from the TP2 to the Samsung Moment... no regrets what-so-ever Coming from a slide out qwerty keyboard I wanted my next phone to have that same feature that's why I didn't go with the Hero Make the switch and you too will be happy, no more flashing just to get functionality out of your phone! |
Re: Windows Mobile ---> Android: Who has made the switch?
What I really desire is more consistent performance. One day my TP2 will run like a charm. The next, I get lag or have to do a soft reset, or my battery will last 18 hours one day and 8 the next, with similar usage.
I just want things to work smoothly and consistently. I can't seem to get that from WM (stock 6.1 ROM running SPB MS3.5) |
Re: Windows Mobile ---> Android: Who has made the switch?
I did.. and havent looked back!!!! though i do miss wm alittle. android is way more fun..Plus using the hero kinda reminds me of using the vogue..lol

Re: Windows Mobile ---> Android: Who has made the switch?
I've had a ton of winmo phones, MDA 8125 8525,touch, imagio, omnia, omnia 2, And I got to say android and their market place are great, switch to a droid and I don't see myself switching back. Any phone that can run weeks without a restart is a winner in my book

Didnt really realize how behind wm was until I switched. Pretty amazing how google was able to jump past wm so fast with only their second version of their OS.

Re: Windows Mobile ---> Android: Who has made the switch?
I've had EVERY winmo phone Sprint has ever had. I know have a nexus one and will never go back to windows unless they create something mind boggling.

Re: Windows Mobile ---> Android: Who has made the switch?
I made the switch. I've had 8 consecutive Window Mobile devices, but it's been pretty clear they were dying. All I needed to push me over the edge was the announcement of WP7S and the fact that not only did I have to change platforms and get new apps no matter what, but MS made all the decisions I've hated on the iPhone. No multitasking, no side loading, no microsd, no copy/paste? Not for me. I went out and got a Moment for now. When the Evo is released the Moment goes to my wife.
Considering switching to a Hero instead of Moment while waiting on Evo. I really want Sense UI. I miss the smart dialer. |
Wirelessly posted (HTC Diamond: Mozilla/4.0 (compatible; MSIE 6.0; Windows CE; IEMobile 7.11) Sprint MP6950SP)
I heard Microsoft is buying Google. |
Re: Windows Mobile ---> Android: Who has made the switch?
I know im seriously considering it my first smartphone was the TP and I liked it and loved the TP2 that I have but this world in which we live has left our dearly beloved WinMo for new ventures and thus support has almost died. I hate to leave it behind but I think this sealed the deal for me. Android and Evo here I come :) hate to lose my SERO tho :(

At least you're sticking with HTC, they seem to make rock solid phones, I know I enjoyed the heck out of my TP and TP2, the only two HTC devices I've owned. |
Re: Windows Mobile ---> Android: Who has made the switch?
My TP2 is going up on ebay as soon as the Evo comes out. Bye Bye to SERO for me too! Great job Sprint and HTC!

Re: Windows Mobile ---> Android: Who has made the switch?
Mogul -- TP --- Now HERO....
Best switch I have ever done! Few tweaks are needed but more user settings than anything. Out of the box and straight to use it has been the best phone I have had my hands on. I was looking at iPhone options and this is the closest thing on my service I could get and from what I read it's on par if not better than the i Phone! I wonder if a droid os is going to come out for a pc..lol |
Re: Windows Mobile ---> Android: Who has made the switch?
After many years of using a windows device I too am thinking of witching to the Sprint HTC Evo. Not because I am tired of WM (not a fan of WM 7) but because I love the hardware and design of the Evo. I have been waiting for a touch HD (big A screen) type phone to come to Sprint. I noticed the HD2 was not going to make it to Sprint so I upgraded my Touch to the TP2. My question is what is everyone using to take notes? I use word and excel often to reference information along with jotting down a quick note. I can see were email, text, and web are equal if not better but having access to files is a must as well for me. I know with Linux you have the option of open office is there an application similar. I did see were the Hero came with open office but that is too limited for me.

Re: Windows Mobile ---> Android: Who has made the switch?
Im making the switch to Droid as soon as november comes around (my contract end date). My brother has the MotoDroid and ever since I saw the pictures of the Incredible ive been antsy. My biggest fear is that Verizon will somehow cripple the Incredible...in some ways they have since its been underclocked(now this may be HTC's fault but I dont blame them NEAR as much as I do verizon). Basically im just sick and tired of havng gimped phones is why im switching to Droid....plus a brand new device is always exciting.

The KB is holding the cavemen behind.

Re: Windows Mobile ---> Android: Who has made the switch?
Used a Hero for 2 weeks, loved Android to death, everything just worked on it, and very few minimal tweaks needed. My only beef with the Hero was the sluggishness of it, especially when messaging, and that caused me to take it back, but I played wit a friend of mines Hero which was rooted and running the latest Fresh ROM, and WOW! I'm trying to hold out until this summer for the Evo to definitely part ways with WinMo, but it aint gonna happen lol

Re: Windows Mobile ---> Android: Who has made the switch?
new Moment user here from Pre/TP2...... LOVE IT
sucks that it doesnt get the attention it deserves cuz its not HTC, but cmon you got Android, 800mhz cpu, capacitive glass AMOLED screen, and keyboard = perfect device to have till the EVO 4G hits... I was hoping to use my upgrade for a new Palm device cuz WebOS is the BEST OS there is, but chances of it coming close to EVO 4G in hardware are close to impossible... |

Re: Windows Mobile ---> Android: Who has made the switch?
Ill stop using windows mobile when windows 7 come out and a good looking phone with keyboard comes to sprint with a snap dragon processor and the new 4g :) but i will miss windows mobile for some months :( probably until i get use to the android software the only reason i will buy a windows 7 phone and not switch to android if someone could make flashing available on it make it custom and not the ugly zune type interfacelook
