Brain fart - drove 26 hours

Trying to use google maps 4 - build on 6.1 using v1.6 RC3

Blue "gps dot" lagging big time and going from one street to another. I was driving around OAKLAND of all places at 2am lost. Needless to say it was an ... uh ... experience.

Not sure what it was locking on but dot would say I was on 40th st and I'd be on like 70th st or something across the map.

Also not sure what's going on but my TomTom Navigator will not pick up any GPS signal. Loads maps just fine, just can't get a GPS signal at all, even when GMaps supposedly does.

That probably has nothing to do with the ROM and should be discussed on Main forum.

See link in my Signature.

You did turn on the GPS in Google Maps right (i.e. "Use GPS" in Menu)?
You may have been running off a tower lock which will be VERY loosey goosey laggy.

If you did do "Use GPS" in Google Maps DON'T CHANGE it to COM4 what ever you do, leave defaulted as "Managed by Windows".

That all said weather, time of day, reception in the car can cause it to lag. This has happened to me ONCE in 5 months (on both TP2's at the same time). It was still quite usable but it was like 5-10 seconds behind.

Any chance that you ran QuickGPS first? One of the many times that I flashed, I forgot to run QuickGPS. It took forever to pick up the satellites. Once I ran QuickGPS it was practically instantaneous finding the satellites.
Most likely GMaps was using tower lock which is more like a guestimate than a true location. Mine sitting at home is actually a town away from where I live. Using GPS instead of tower lock, and it can tell which side of the house I'm on (obviously using it outside and not inside).

This does have threaded email.

Is this Native threaded Mail or the patched version? Any feedback on other changes vs. 235xx 6.5.5? Is this 6.5.5 or 6.5.3?

After you obtain a lock QuickGPS does absolutely NOTHING. It does not have any effect on LAG. All it does is speed up lock time. Once you have a position lock it's all in the hands of the GPS harware (and the buffering to talk to it).
