According to the updated change log (1st post in the thread), nrgz replaced showcase with a taskmanager shortcut for 23xxx, where the "Start" menu used to be in 6.5 (just click the empty space in the upper left hand corner of the screen).

R2 is not up yet, you can go to the main page and the download link will take you to where RC2 will be.

I have had pretty good luck with showcase 1.1 (not 1.0.1 or whatev the old version was) it works with 6.5.1 correctly. Allows press and hold the X to close and press and hold the Windows softkey to start showcase as part of the default install. As far as I can tell it hasn't given me crap but who knows I didn't think quick menu was working with 6.5.1 but if it is thats keen !

That's been there for a while. it isn't R2
R would be short for RC (Release Candidate)
