I don't have any connection issues with vzw. When you go to the phone via the phone hard key, do you get a message about provisioning? If so it should tell you to dial a #number. (I'm getting so old I can't even remember the number). If you dial the number and follow the directions it should update the prl etc. Normally this is not needed but sometimes I do have to do it.
