I've been sticking with 16Mb and it's pretty solid.
Maybe I'll try lowering it too since I know higher page pool can lower batt life.

That explains why my battery life wasn't as good. Still WAY better than the Epic though. Holly cow do I have to charge that thing a lot. Oh, and how are you guys getting 44-47% free? The best I've had is 39% on 21916.

does anyone have any tips for keeping gwes.exe memory usage down? I have had this problem recently where it climbs to 40 or 50mb on a 16mb pp.

After soft reset my gwes.exe is at 3.74mb....I'll look tomorrow and let you know what it rises to after moderate use. This is with my PP set at 12.

Re: [Kitchen] WVGA Touch Pro 2 Collaboration

I'm using 23138 and I've found that just lowering the GDI\GlypheCache limits to 131072 (hex:00020000) dramatically reduced GWES.exe's mem usage.
Calk's defaults are 153600 (hex:00025800).

I figured out that 153600 and 131072 are acceptable values... They are based on different multiples. It's just kinda like using 768 (thirds) vs. 512 (halves). I dont know if this makes complete sense, but this is the type of thing I try and figure out when I break my kitchen or nothing new has been released for a while. Haha.
All I know is that it makes sense to me AND it works: does not lower performance and it seems to let gwes handle memory a little bit better.
All other issues I solve with HTCAddicts CleanRAM.

I have gwes.exe at 3.72MB after softreset, 23138, sense 2019.1914, and CHT,PP at 16

To everyone that responded to this I am sure he is referring to the value that is represented using DotFred TSKMGR, If using the default WM one you will see low numbers but DF TM shows all Modules that are tied to/used by gwes.exe. Having custom start icons really hikes up gwes usage. I removed all icons except for my folders and reduced ram by 10MB.

Wow...This is very true. MMTaskManager shows my 28mb after about 5 or 6 hours of pretty heavy use.

If custom icon is 90x90,it shouldnt cause noticable mem jump.I always scale them to 90x90 for smooth start menu scrolling and better mem

Most of mine are at 96x96. Do you think that extra 6 pixels makes any difference? All my folders are at 128x128. Is there any reason those can't be scaled to 90x90 too?

Damn, this is going to be a pain...

Honestly I really don't think 128x128 has to much of a negative effect on memory. All my icons are 128x128 and my scrolling is very smooth and memory stay pretty free compared to most others ROMs.

Re: [Kitchen] WVGA Touch Pro 2 Collaboration

It was easy to notice on low mem devices.I used to cook for Vogue (105mb total ram).Every pixel and kb was counted lol
When start menu not organized in folders and like 30 icons 128x128,it should be noticable imo
custom phcanoverbmp.dll is #2 mem problem

I cant tell if its really worth it,or not,but Im damn perfectionist lol

Seems like you using 4 per row startmenu.I would open that startmenu grid scene file and check out the size that written in there (it could be less then 90x90).And scale all icons to that size.

More pain lol

True... I also:
- moved all my custom Icons to a folder
- Made sure they are all the same size (90x90)
- Hunted down icons that were ~10-12k (and I liked... that took a while!)
- and then added the folder to my fsreplxfilt "dirs to exclude"

Maybe it's overkill but its working great for me.

Additionally, I just found a memory sweet spot. 14Mb page pool is giving me 80Mb on boot, WITH manila launched and my contacts restored and it only goes down to 70+ in a couple of hours. I'm crossing my fingers that this pagepool sweetspot is close to the batterylife sweetspot too, but I'll let you know.
(train of thought = I'm always amazed at how fast the device functions BEFORE I restore ~400 contacts)
Thank YOU for the thanks... you guys got me to vip!

About your 80mb available with a 14PP, is that with or without CHT?

With CHT...
After a few hours I'm down to 67Mb free.
I only use a few tabs though: Twitter, Message, Mail, Calendar, Weather. (of course Home & Settings)
Thats with some SPB dll's, xTask.dll, OCT.dll loaded, LockDevice.exe running, and Transport.exe that won't exit from the MMS I sent this morning.
Transport.exe has always been weird like that.

Does any one else notice that Co0kie's "CHT_Lockscreen" does not seem to suspend very well compared to the HTC LS from 2018? I mean that it seems to have that old familiar problem of warming up my phone while its off
I have almost nothing on the CustomLS besides Show Clock (orig. w/out weather) and Show Notifications (notification bar).
Is this typical?
I figured I'd try it since the new HTC LS unlocked in my pocket a couple times. Probably just a fluke-pocket-unlock though, hehe.

What are you using to dump it? I've dumped it with OSKitchen by airxtreme and xipdump with not problems using either program. OSKitchen make a really nice dump (IMO) and parses the initiflashes.dat to make app.dat's for every EXT. I use it to dump ROM even though I don't use it to build ROMs anymore.

I've dumped it in EVK. Make sure to delete your temp folder before hand just in case.

Anyone know why not all of my folders get the icon I specified through the registry?

Quote:

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Security\Shell\StartInfo\Start\ Applications]

That one works, others dont...I have the correct folder name and the correctly named icons, just some dont work...

Have you checked the registry value after you flash the ROM to make sure it is the one you set? It sounds like it is getting overwritten or the icon path/name is not correct.

William

I had an issue where 2018 would not show an Icon unless it was named HTC_start_

My app folder shows but I renamed it as below. try HTC_Applications.png

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Security\Shell\StartInfo\Start\ Applications]
"Icon"="\\Windows\\HTC_Applications.png"

And im sure you know some folders wont show up if there is nothing in them.

This is not true in most cases. Most of the time a stock ROM dump will have lines in the initflashfiles.dat that create folders so in this case even if you don't have any .lnk's being put into the folder, the folder will still be there. Also when you converting a cab into an OEM it will also add these lines.

Your right,

I should have stated that when creating a non stock folder and link nothing to it the folder may not appear.

Some folders will have an icon.lnk with no registry for the icon...
Seems that the reg entry will override the icon.lnk though.
Good luck.

Would someone be so kind as to drop the latest ROM/SYS files and manilas on the 1st post with the others. I have been rebuilding my laptop and kitchen and searching and downloading and I fear this day is never going to end!!!! I had the 23138 and 23135 packages and 2016 Manila core and Engine but I see some folks are on 2019 etc. I am trying to keep up but it is real hard to read the posts when you have a BSOD LOL. Any help appreciated or if anyone can link me that would be appreciated too! Thanks Guys!

Damn, this is going to be a pain...

I scaled mine to all the original stock sizes since I didn't notice any benefit to them being larger. I did however, notice that the smaller sizes of course did help the mem quite a bit and depending on the graphics driver it ran slightly faster.

Can anyone help me out with a little 6.5 graphic problem.

http://i981.photobucket.com/albums/a...honedialer.png

This is the softkey bar of my phone canvas screen. Anyone know why the button in the middle is doing what it's doing? I thought the png had a transparent background. I'm not sure why it seems to be using part of the softkey buttons as it's background. Anyone got any thoughts?

I'm using Phone Canvas 4.2.54620113831 and WM build 21911.

6.5 Start Menu Arrangement

Can anyone link me up to a good tut. on start menu order arrangement on WM 6.5? I've got 6.5.X down pretty good, but I can't get any of my order changes to work on 6.5.
