Shortly there after a configuration box comes up with a list of available GSM networks in which Tracfone is listed. I select that one and it loses signal again. But as long as I just select AT&T everything works fine. Not sure if this means anything or what just thought I'd mention it.

understand that tracphone is prmarily a at&t reseller. and they have their own towers or satillites but they allow you to roam on at&t towers with no extra fees. thats why when you buy a phone from their site they ask your zip code to see is gsm or cdma fits your needs. i suggest you go on at&t. tracphone doesnt have good coverage but good coverage partners.
