I can Flash ROMS "Mighty Mike" and do GSM Calls on ATT. My Radio under settings>system>devce informations says 2.05.00WV. The only thing that I did not do is the Super CID.

I am wanting to update the radio but do not want to mess it up. I do my GSM calls in manual mode...
Can anyone confirm that the RADIO has UW when properly SIM unlocked. My RADIO doesn't. I am able to use ATT on US GSM Towers and can flash custome ROMs but do not have the UW on my Device Information...

Re: [UNLOCKED-RADIOS] - - 2.23.00WU/1.96.10WU Radio Unlocked for US Networks

Here's what I am looking to do, if someone can tell me if this is the right thread (I swear on anything I read every single page):

I am a Verizon customer but sometimes in some rare instances (like my friend's cabin that we go to every year) AT&T works (I know because my friend's phone is AT&T) and my phone does not. I would like to buy a cheap-o prepaid AT&T SIM card (like $20 worth or something) and simply switch to that for the rare times I need to make a phone call and Verizon has no service but AT&T does. Does this thing in the OP get that job done? I simply switch to GSM mode and it will use the prepaid SIM card like I'm using an AT&T phone? (If this is the case, my phone number is obviously different when calling on the SIM card, right?)

Also, sometimes I visit family in Europe; a family that laughed at me when they bought me a SIM card for my phone and I didn't have a SIM port (most Verizon phones don't). When I go overseas to see them now, will this prepaid AT&T SIM card work? If not, will the SIM card they try handing me the next time work?

Thanks so much to whoever can answer me these idiotic questions of mine

it should say "WU" instead of WV or WF or VF
yeah with the new radio once you reception goes out with verizon it switches on its on. no need to do anything. and at&t will work over sees but may consider it roaming. make sure you have your sim unlocked and then afterwards flash the new radio.

Thank you very much. Since I plan to have a cheap-o AT&T SIM card, I'd rather it not go over to AT&T unless I ask it to (I can see it switching accidentally when both AT&T and Verizon are both available). Also I am reading that AT&T prepaid SIM cards expire after between 30 and 90 days? Is that true?

I can just buy a prepaid SIM card when I'm in Europe at any cell phone store and pop it in my Verizon TP2 then, is that right? But I believe that functionality was always part of the phone...the added functionality is now being able to use GSM networks in the USA as well?

This is not correct. By itself the radio version does NOT denote SIM lock status.

If you are running in GSM mode with the ATT SIM in and active you can either:
1) Go to the ATT web site and get the GPRS settings to enter manually
2) Call ATT customer service from the phone, tell them you have a TP2 and ask them to push the data settings to your phone via a SMS

Either will work.

No, it's not true. Not if your phone is Verizon branded hardware.

If you want to update the radio to a custom version, you will need to be security unlocked. If you just want the latest Verizon radio run the official Verizon update package (this will update the radio along with the system ROM) then flash the system ROM of your choice.

If you are officially SIM unlocked through Verizon you can have a radio other than WU and still be running on an American GSM network.

The radio version does not have any effect on the SIM unlock in the phone. If you have a WU radio, then you are SIM unlocked by extension because in order to run a custom radio you need to run the Olinex unlocker.

The converse however is NOT true. You can have a SIM unlocked phone and NOT have a WU radio.

If you just want to run GSM SIM cards in your Verizon TP2 do the following:

1) Call Verizon CS.
2) Say "I'm heading to London next month on a business trip and I'd like to be able to use a local SIM card. Can you please give me the unlock code for my phone?"
3) Verizon will give you the unlock code and instructions on how to use it.

Once that is done, you can use any GSM SIM card in the device. If you want to use ATT, just get a prepaid ATT card, pop it in and go to town. If you're in Europe and want to use a local European card, do the same.

You WILL have the phone number of the SIM card when in GSM mode (the CDMA radio will be off and all CDMA calls will go to voicemail just as if your phone was off).

Your prepaid ATT card likely will not roam in Europe, but the local SIM they give you should work just fine.

1) Yes, the SIM cards will expire if they are not topped up.
2) Yes, if your TP2 is SIM unlocked, you can just use any prepaid SIM assuming the network uses the same frequencies.
3) The Verizon TP2 supports the US frequencies out of the box, it just has a SIM lock enabled. If you have Verizon CS give you the unlock code, that's all you need.

Olipro.. (quick thanks for the SPL unlocker and SIM/CID/Security unlock.. paid for and executed flawlessly )

Even though this radio is based on the old 1.96.00 STOCK radio, is it similar to or based also on the 1.96.00esn radio ??

I'm new to flashing Radios etc. so I apologize for my ignorance

Thanks
Mike
