Hey drew, thank you for your offer. It is very kind of you. Unfortunately I cannot chat because I am at work during the day. What radio are you using? Perhaps a quick little upgrade will fix the issue.

I find opea 9.5 and 9.7 about equal now (I never used the wheel anyway). I really like the scrolling and the smoothness of 9.7 over 9.5, I do not have any tearing or errors...
Good to hear there was good reason behind the switch. Honestly I like Opera 9.7 better overall, but right now I cannot set cache size, enable javascript or cookies, and get constant screen tearing when using the iPhone version of google reader. Worked flawlessly on 9.5, but now when scrolling it will often tear or lockup, and wait for the bottom right button redraw before being able to accept input again.

As I hear it the error disallowing use of javascript and cookies isn't uncommon, but I haven't seen a fix. I also cannot set my cache size, which is troublesome.

honestly the best radio for you, i cannot tell ya. but i am a sprint user in the midwest, using the latest verizon radio & its night & day between the stock radio. battery life is better, i can only assume this is b/c reception is better as well. i'm a firm believer in having the latest updates all around in every aspect i can. besides it takes 2 minutes to update your radio & doesn't "wipe" any data off the phone doing it. give a couple of them a shot until you find the one that works best for your area/carrier.

You mean the amarullz PeopleMessageClassic thing? I am unable to copy the files into the Windows folder. Says no permission, I suspect they're in use/locked?

theyre in ROM, you need to try to use total commander to copy them on the device.

My thought would be your pim backup is not compatible with something in the ROM.. things in my rom arent very standard so it is not surprising that for example a backup from, say, calkulin's rom applied to mine would break something.

What all have you included in your backup?

side note: 28008 titanium only (I am getting back to my roots ) will be up today. A few changes inlcude no more taskfacade (replaced with double tap back to launch WM task manager) no menu animation, they pop up instantly now. all shortcuts fixed, no more duplicates, etc. Should be very fast too

no this rom works fine with his provider aka Sprint
drdrew, I re-read the thread, and from what I can tell my problems are different. I am not getting any error about no sim, I think what my problem is is that I don't care for the sms app in these ROMs. (Btw, from a newbie, I am assuming that what people are referring to as Manilla is the shell that these phones run? Again, I came from a Treo Pro and it is way different. But, as I adjust I like this shell pretty good.)

Anyway, I looked in the Registry, using TotalCommander, and seem to be unable to edit the registry values mentioned, and don't even have the ones
"People.MessageClient.Disable"=dword:00000001
; "People.Message.IsCDMA"=dword:00000001
at all. What gives?

I'm thinking if I can find these two I can disable the Manilla SMS client and revert back to the stock WM one? I would love to be able to do that. Any suggestions?

TIA,
Malachi
