1. run PIM Backup, select ONLY Contacts for Backup, tap "Next"
2. UNCHECK "Binary Backup"
3. Proceed until finished
4. Unzip the created backup (pib) file
5. Open the contacts_*.csc file with Notepad++ (or any other editor supporting encoding conversion)
6. Select "Format" -> "Convert to ANSI"
7. Save the file
8. Pack the file back into the PIB file (use zip)
9. run PIM Backup again and choose the modified PIB file for restore
10. choose to delete all existing contacts
11. Let PIM Backup assign the columns automatically (";" as separator)
12. Proceed until restore is complete

It worked for me! No SMS bug anymore! So only one SMS is sent!

* UPDATE: Possible solution to PIMBackup problems HERE (thx go to drake2007)
Manila v2.1 (and newer versions like v2.5) are not compatible with the way PIMBackup restores your contacts. If u do use PIMBackup, you'll most likely face an issue when sending 2 messages after one another to the same person (the first message will be sent, but when u press send after your 2nd message, you'll get a message saying "Text Message cannot be sent"). Those who are using ActiveSync should not experience any problems.

here's the final word on the SMS Issue (taken from Dutty's thread):

Quote:
Regarding manila v2.1 with sms I think one user who had probs sending and recieving through manila interface as narrowed it down to unicode in contacts so probably htc changed few stuff,

So backing up ur old contacts and using manila v2.1 could give u the sms bug before, probably explained why some user who doesnt get like me as I use activesyc to back up all contacts.

so basicly, if u have ever restored contacts from pimbackup, you will most probably get the sms bug (even if u use pimbackup, then activesync, then delete contacts and use activesync to restore contacts)

if u have never used pimbackup, you're good to go
if you did, like me, you will probably have to delete and re-add all your contacts (i tried this out, and basicly i deleted a contact, re-added his number, and voila, sms issue is gone)

Do you think it may have anything to do with the clock settings??? Because the time stamps for the sms messages is off. For example, I sent a text at 5:51 pm, but when my friend replied, her text was time stamped for 6:52 pm even though she replied right away. Then I replied at like 5:54, and her next reply came in and was stamped for 6:55. And so on.... but the conversation didn't thread properly. All mine were lumped together by time stamp and all her's were lumped together by time stamp, but not in the order in which they were sent...

Hey, I don't know if you tried this before but text messages take an extremely long time to restore with PIMbackup. I have a lot of contacts as well and I stopped restoring my text messages just because it took too long. Contacts/appointments are very quick to restore, text messages are what take a long time because as it's adding the messages, your phone is filtering them into their right places.

I've used PIMbackup for a couple years now, I've recently stopped just because there are much better ways to restore contants/appts/texts now. I just backup with PIM periodically to have the data saves, as well as text messages included because some messages I wanted to have on file if I ever needed again which I can pull those out of the backup anytime. Only problem with restoring text messages is my phones never put them back into the threaded format so restoring did nothing anyways because nothing was in the right spot.

Until they update PIM, I recommend using another program now, microsoft my phone and google's sync will backup and restore all that data for you and it's online so you can access it anyways at any time without storing it on your phone.

But like I said, I've been using PIMbackup for a couple years now and I've never seen that SMS problem (Knock on wood,) so I don't know what's up with that, but it's enough to keep me from using PIM while there are many other backup programs that are up to date and updated that I can live without PIM for now.

I've already tried Microsoft MyPhone... That's the first Program I ever used to back up info besides Activesync. But Microsoft MyPhone does not restore sms back to the device in the proper order. So, that's why I switched to PIM. I don't think you all are understanding what I'm saying. The sms messages that I backed up with PIM and restored ARE FINE. It's the new messages that I have been gettikng since flashing to v305 that are not being sorted and threaded properly.

Arrrrgggggghhhhhh! LOL! deck, the backup isn't the problem. I didn't have a problem with the back up and/or restore. THOSE MESSAGES ARE FINE!!! LOL. I mean the new messages that are coming in now are the ones that I was having the issue with. And I was asking if you think it had anything to do with the clock settings?

Also, what can be done about the issue with the weather tab? It doesn't offer countries for you to choose; only U.S. states and cities... Is there a cab fix or something that can give us back international weather and world clock?

FYI... I had the issue with SMS not restoring in the proper threaded order with both myphone and PIMbackup. The solution I found was to go into settings/system/text messaging and set it back to classic. Reboot. Then run PIMbackup/myphone to restore. Then finally switch back to threaded mode in settings/system/text, reboot, DONE!

OH MY GOSH, GUYS... LOL!!!!

AGAIN, I DID NOT HAVE A PROBLEM WITH RESTORING MY TEXT MESSAGES. THE MESSAGES THAT I RESTORED ARE FINE AND WERE RESTORED IN THE PROPER THREADED ORDER...

WHAT I AM SPEAKING OF ARE THE NEW MESSAGES THAT I HAVE RECEIVED SINCE FLASHING TO V305. THE NEW (NEW NEW NEW) MESSAGES ARE THE ONES THAT ARE NOT COMING IN IN THE PROPER THREADED ORDER....

I don't think you all are reading through what I typed. I'm not asking about fixing what I've restored, because what I restored is absolutely FINE!!! I'm talking about the new messages.....

Believe it or not, I had this problem when testing one of the betas. And as it turned out through trial and error, it was my backup that caused it. Somehow, PIM backup was corrupting my inbox. Everything from the backup was perfect, but it somehow borked the inbox on incoming messages AFTER the backup. Totally weird I know, but that's what I tracked it down as.

This may not be the case with yours, so if I'm totally wrong, I hope you find your answer soon! :)

P.S. Just so you know, you can count on me to read your posts in thier entirety.

I would like to select Sprint ONLY for data and put the call guard on.

dont know if anyone else is having this issue, but the clock on my top bar by the speaker icon and the clock on my home tab are not synching up slightly, takes a little longer for the clock on my top bar to be the same time as the home tab clock, any recommendations? thanks.

deck, did you get a chance to fix the weather and world clock? In v305 it wasn't allowing you to choose countries... only U.S. states and cities. So, nothing international...

I'm downloading right now...

EDIT: So, what you're saying about my sms is that I should ditch them and start a new because PIM corrupted them??? and to use sprite backup, instead???

basically, yes. :P
yes weather has been fixed. also, other sip's have been disabled. i am working on a cab to enable the other sip's. also for anybody that wants the north america weather database instead of the stock htc database, use the attached cab.

see, that's all you had to tell me, LOL . Cuz for a minute I was really confused  and frustrated :(. I didn't think you guys were reading what I was saying correctly.

...and I'll be waiting on that cab to enable the other sips, cuz I'm loving those. Oh, is the capital "L" fixed? I'm not tripping on the :/; or the "/' .

Yes. 6.5.

It's cooked into the stuffed rom, but you need your own license code.

Works great.

Got an issue. I've just flashed to v307, it got through the first time customization, then I cleared storage. Second time it only went through 1/3 of the customization, so I soft reset and cleared storage again. It finally got through the 3rd customization and seemed to be working fine. But now, everytime I connect it to the computer to sync via activesync it freezes. It has frozen 3 times while trying to sync. Is anyone else having this problem???

I'm going to try taking the battery out and see what happens. Oh, and I did flash back to stock before flashing to this version of SsS...

EDIT: Just froze a fourth time. Don't know what the issue is... gonna flash back to v305 til I get some feedback.

Were you able to sync your phone with activesync? or did you restore your PIM via sprite back up?

I keep my Contacts and Calendar on the corporate Exchange server, and they restored fine. I use Sprite for making sure everything else comes back (as a safety net).

Most of my Apps get installed with Sashimi (setup so UC calls it) as well as their reg keys.
