I would say there isn't a set standard for testing battery life. I would recommend getting a baseline battery life number by using your "favorite rom" or "stock rom" for a couple days (a week would be preferable) and measure how much battery is consumed during a normal 24 hr period. Then get the average usage for those X amount of days. Then you can go to another rom and just use it a couple days and compare it to your original findings.

There are FAR too many factors in what causes batteries to discharge faster or slower. So a true "do this to test it" isn't there. There are even things that are out of your control that can affect battery life (weather, network maintenance, etc). During your comparisons, I would make sure you are doing the same amount of consumption (# of calls, time on data, # of times XX applications updates, etc) and staying in the same area (with good signal). Make sure the ROMs are basically the same. Programs installed, etc.

Good Luck!
