You can also place it in the \Windows folder, it works the same... I've had to add a couple of my rings and dings for my alerts

Actually, for me putting it in the \Windows folder didn't work. I tried it as well as the \Windows\Rings folder. This worked for the phone ringtone, just not the alerts like text or e-mail. Either way, putting it in My Documents definitely did the trick.
