Looking for two apps. Timer and GPS.

Hey guys, its me and my brother's first time owning a smartphone. These things are awesome! I already replaced my Alltel Touch Pro's radio and firmware with the Verizon radio and the Juggalo firmware. Now me and bro are looking for different useful apps.

My brother wants to find an application that is a simple timer, similar to the iTouch (iPhone). Something with big, transparent countdown numbers and a simple interface.

Second thing I was wanting to know was more about the GPS. Is the GPS in the Touch Pro a real unit or a cellular based one? Secondly, what free GPS apps are available? Do I have to buy map packs somewhere to get GPS functionality? I know nothing of phone-based GPS systems.

Thank you guys. This forum has been awesome to me. Been a long-time lurker in preparation for getting my first smartphone and I'm glad to be here now

Re: Looking for two apps. Timer and GPS.

Thanks alot man. I love the friendliness of this forum. Can the timer I got here count down? Or do I need to get a different app. Is there anything there I'm missing?

Re: Looking for two apps. Timer and GPS.

I downloaded AmAze to my phone and thought I followed the directions clearly on the Verizon 2.0 fix thread, but I canot get AmAze to work. It says "communication problem". Any suggestions?

Re: Looking for two apps. Timer and GPS.

I use this version and it has a countdown timer and a stopwatch. Just click on menu in the program and switch from the stopwatch to the timer.

I've tinkered with many GPS apps and here is the low down.

Web Based (Meaning- you need data connection to download the maps., so while your GPS will work, you will not get any maps if you are at a place without cell phone reception)
- Google Maps: Accurate and light.
- Sprint Telenav: Has the look of your traditional standalone GPS unit.
- Microsoft Live: Similar to Google Maps but as with anything that MS does, its a bit bloated. It comes with movie time, gas prices and etc...
- AmazeGPS: More or less like the Sprint Telenav, a bit snappier

Non Web Based (Meaning- you don't need data connection, the maps can be preloaded on your SD)
- TomTom 7 (This seems to be the favorite around here)
- Garmin XT (As with anything Garmin, the community for this program is pretty big outside of here. Many maps and highly customizable.)

Good luck.
