ROM's of the 3(++) Kingdoms

I have not flashed since the Mogul days when DCD ROM's were king. Now it seems that with DCD's passing from the scene, chaos has spread throughout the land and every third poster has a thread going for their own ROM. So, can anyone give a summary of what ROM's are the most popular, supported, and have the most balaced feature set. I don't need everything extremely stripped down because I dont expect to ever run out of space on the flash drive. On the other hand I don't want so many things preloaded the ROM runs slower than stock. Something with a similar number, but some more useful, programs than the stock rom would be fine. If a clean ROM is currently the standard then I guess I need to find cabs for pdf, office, java, opera, etc which is sort of a pain.

Also, I don't know all these terms like Manila and Rhodium and it seems like they are thrown around like they should. I dont see much explanation of what is different between various ROMs. That Juicy ROM looks popular but there is no explanation of how it differs from other ROMS by what it includes. Also, I never used a kitchen. Is that complicated, do I have to learn some command lines or edit some ini type file with great understanding of what I am doing and poor documentation to assist me? Will that run ok in Vista? Can someone just give a short explanation of the most popular roms and how they are different from eachother? If you have your own ROM and it is not popular but you would like to promote it, sorry, I am probably not your guy as I dont have the time to remain on the scene and update every week. I need something that has been vetted and I can run for 2-3 months+ and will still be around then for me to update.

P.S. I am on Sprint.

I would flash MightyROM 4.16. He just released it last week with intentions of it being a final build. It is super quick and stable with no known issues. it comes with the most popular programs one would need and should keep you happy for a while.

Juicy's ROMS are great, but he tends to be more towards the bleeding edge, especially with incorporating the new Manila from the Rhodium (That is the newest version of touchflo from the new TouchPro2, for the non geek), and the program hasn't had all the kinks worked out of it yet... Best of Luck!

I like Yay4juggs 8.0 rom. He has been around from the start and so far has the most fluid smooth opera 9.5. Every other rom (new and old) have jerkyness to the 2d rendering. Makes opera very jerky.

Coming form the days of dcd's roms myself, I'd say the most similar roms still made today are bored/juicy/mightyrom. I personally use mightyrom myself.

Manilla and Rhodium are different versions of Touch Flo 3-D which is HTC's new interface that sort of takes the place of the old "Today" screen. Some people like it, some people don't. Rhodium is the newer version that has been ported over from TP2. (If you simply disable TF3D the old Today screen will show up.)

Most of the Custom ROMS use some form of TP3D and much of the customization is related to it in terms of differnt wallpapers, getting landscape working, customizing different tabs, etc. Each ROM cook has their own particular "look" for TF3D.

If you aren't interested in TF3D you can simply look at the list of programs installed in each ROM (should be in the first or second post of each thread... but not all cooks list them) and also the ROM base that is being used.

Really the BOTTOM line is you probably have to personally check them out yourselves. Recommendations can be very subjective. Many times one ROM will be "perfect" for someone but very "imperfect" for another. But I would pay attention to comments about stability and speed. Those comments are a bit more objective.

Re: ROM's of the 3(++) Kingdoms

i havent flashed any of the new roms since dream's last release of 1.2, its kept me pretty happy for the last 2 months...i find it closest to the DCD style of roms, clean quick, no issues...i use the full version

http://forum.ppcgeeks.com/showthread...ighlight=dream

it really is hard to find a specific one you want, with out just flashing and flashing and flash, and did i say flashing...
