Re: Custom ROMS causing keyboard issues?

well i dont know what may cause this problem but i cant get it to work. i had the last juicy rom before the tp2 update and it worked fine for about a day or so, then the keyboard died. flashed to a diff rom and ended up with mikes 4.5 but i have the same issue.

not sure if its the a driver or hardware. im going to flash one more time.. if that doesnt work im going to flash back to stock and take it to sprint.

but i would like to resolve this... i dont know enough to figure this out software wise. so any help would be great....

I'm not having hardware keyboard problems....I can't get a SIP to work to save my life....I simply can't figure it out. I have a suspicion that it has to do with Advanced Config....remember we had problems with the Titan?

I'm going to flash tonight and see how long I can keep the SIP working

Re: Custom ROMS causing keyboard issues?

I had the old Dream 0.5 ROM when it first came out (Nov 08?) until about 3 weeks ago (beginning of March) when my keyboard started having the same unresponsive/locking issues where I would type and the backlight would turn off while typing and nothing on the screen. I thought I just needed to reflash, so I went through a lot of the popular custom ROMs on here and ended up with Juggalo, same problem. I flashed back to Sprint stock, same problem except the built in SMS app appeared to crash half the time when I tried to type with the keyboard - though it seemed to get a clue when I pressed hard on the space-bar.

So I relocked, headed to the store, they recreated the same problem with it and got me a new one out of the box (I have the full insurance coverage and they forgot to put in the order for a day). I flashed to Juggalo and all seems fine now. I forgot how smooth typing was and didn't realize I was putting up with the performance issues for so long.

And how is a custom ROM HTC's fault?? Just curious..

Re: Custom ROMS causing keyboard issues?

its a physical keyboard issue...

like literally the cable comes disconnected

im a tech for a sprint affiliate its been greatly discussed amongst the tech in our stores...

its an easy fix...you just need the proper screwdriver...u may be able to get away with using a very small flathead...like the kind used to fix eye glasses...

you just unscrew the screws under the battery cover (theres 4) use your thumbnail to go around the edges pop the back off...slid the keyboard up and you'll see your cable right in the middle unattached...

ive fixed 4 "non working" keyboards this way

i think its just poor work putting it together

there still may be a software issue...but i would try this fix first

if anyone needs diagrams i think i have one saved in an email...let me know and ill post them

Mine had the same keyboard problem. Mine is also a VZW model, not Sprint. When mine locked up I could wait for a while and it would unfreeze and start working again...but not for very long. I tried multiple soft resets and finally a hard reset. I flashed the ROM shortly after getting the phone but the problem started almost 3 months after flashing that ROM and me not changing anything. The got a refurb replacement under warranty. The replacement phone's keyboard feels different when typing. It doesn't have the snappy tactile feel of the old keyboard. This one feels like the keys are harder to press and don't snap/click like the old one.

Post up the pics if you can. My keyboard is starting to work weird but hasn't gotten to the point of not working. I'd like to look inside and see if mine is loose or what.

I'm on my third sprint month in a month and half with keyboard issues. It seemed to work a little more with the nueKB backlight always on. I've been using Juicy and Mighty Mike roms. Its not too far to go to the store so I don't mind I just wish there was another phone on Sprint I would switch to if I had a chance.
