Re: Best / most stable / fastest / most preferred SYS version

21018 is a legit release. The "patch" is due to the fact that the ROM that the legit 21018 was ripped from did not include the manifest files. A donor set of .DSM files (from 21015) had to be used so bepe's PackageBuilder could reconstruct the files into the folder structure we all think of as "SYS." Also, it was a WVGA release (800x480) so certain resource folders (anything with 800 and 480 in the title) have to be replaced with VGA resources (640x480). That said, I have seen three different postings of this SYS and one had a problem with .NET CF 3.5, one has that problem PLUS a problem with POutlook (and potentially other baseapps files). Here is the one I'm cooking with - so-far it seems to be bug-free:

Re: Best / most stable / fastest / most preferred SYS version

21018 is not going to be the last 6.1 SYS. I currently have a 21027 that someone gave me. Said I am not allowed to share it. MS is planning on releasing 6.1 roms up until 2109X. so there will be more 6.1 roms on the way.

Just thought I would pass that along.

Re: Best / most stable / fastest / most preferred SYS version

Just when I was archiving the kitchen... Would only consider somthing if it offered better performance than 21018 or same performance but newer PIE. Or 6.5 when someone tells me it is yielding good enough performance and the bugs (like camera, e-mail, texting, etc.) have been worked out.

Re: Best / most stable / fastest / most preferred SYS version

Camera, Email and Texting are worked out in 6.5 lol. Honeycomb is slow. im working on finding the ClassName so i can use the scroll wheel in there though. then it will be good to go.

FormerPalmOS 03-03-2009 11:20 AM

Re: Best / most stable / fastest / most preferred SYS version

Would you switch to 6.5 for your daily use phone - if daily use means heavy use and heavy dependency on it being working and stable?

I am on my Pro right now. I see that UDK has realsed a 21028 SYS. so maybe later today I will upload mine that i have.

Re: Best / most stable / fastest / most preferred SYS version

I know every one is after the latest. But I'm VERY impressed with 20771 so far.
I think it's just as good as the later build #s.

One slight hiccup and then it recovered itslef. 39% RAM used at idle.

Re: Best / most stable / fastest / most preferred SYS version

It seems that 21028 is in deed a fake build. The last beta build that MS has at this time is 21027. So i am not going to bother with 21028 at this time. I will come back to it later. for now I need to track down 21027

This is what scares me about the pursuit of (newer = higher number = better). Glad to hear you have a way of verifying what's legit and what's not. I for one am not changing again unless something legit is released that meets my requirements (same or better speed with additional features, or better speed with same features).

Couldn't have said it better myself: I'm very happy with 21018!

Hence me dropping back from 21015 to 20771.

If you feel differently about the weighting, please say so in your post.

Please post the version number you like (or numbers if you wish to comment on multiples), where it came from (stock ROM for XYZ device on ABC carrier, leaked ROM for XYZ device on ABC carrier, Canal street, Beijing, etc.) and why you like it. Assuming I get more than a few responses, I'll try to keep this first post updated with the summary to spare folks reading the posts - but the reasons why will of course remain in the posts.

I'm starting with the versions I am aware of that folks are cooking with today - will add to this list as necessary.

Votes updated 8:51am EST 26-Feb. I changed my vote from 21015 to 21018.

Votes Version
----- 19958/19972 (stock shipped VZW ROM)
----2 20757/20764 (most recent Diamond CDMA shipped ROM)
----1 20757/20954
----1 20765
----1 20931
----1 21009
----5 21013-21015 (possibly illegal or unreleased build with some WM6.5 code)
----2 21018
----- 21109 (possible hex edit)
----1 21139/21143 (WM6.5 - known bugs with camera, for example on CDMA Touch Pro and current OEMs)
----1 21159 (WM6.5)

FWIW, the stock Verizon ROM for TP ships with 19958/19972.

Please change my vote from 21015 to 21018

Re: Best / most stable / fastest / most preferred SYS version

I'm still learning about all this (like what's the difference between a SYS and a XIP?) so please excuse my uneducated questions, but curious if anyone knows any specific/tangible differences between the various builds? Like specific features added/changed in newer builds, specific bugfixes, etc?

Or is it all just sort of "this one's generally faster/slower/buggier" because we don't have any official changelog info from MS?

I'm trying to assemble some tools to try cooking myself, but it's difficult sifting through all the info to figure out where to start. (If anyone can point me toward a good post or two to read to get started I'd really appreciate it) What I'd really like to do for learning purposes is figure out what the absolute bare minimum required to make the device boot is -- not necessarily with everything functional, more like just a kernel with the minimum UI, etc... I'm not even sure if it's possible to modify the SYS on that level or if we're stuck with using each build intact as it is. So much to learn! :)

Re: Best / most stable / fastest / most preferred SYS version

I think I'm done flashing for a while.

I have a Sprint TouchPro flashed with scroslers SSK 1.5 Kitched rev B & using CE build 20764.

At this point, I really can't imagine how the thing could run any better. I have just about every app known to man loaded in the thing & it runs perfectly. The system is super fast & I can't remember the last time I saw any kind of an error.

I can run it for a week with no reset if I want. WMwifirouter works great (I use my Ipod Touch for browsing at times), Arcsoft MMS works perfectly & so does Sling Mobile & every other of the mony programs/apps I have installed..

Re: Best / most stable / fastest / most preferred SYS version

I'll be the odd man out.
My vote gets changed to 20771.

I have not had one crash or problem with it since I've been playing with the AT&T leaked ROMs SYS.
Not only is it the most stable I've used it's as responsive as any other SYS I've tried.

i'm pretty impressed w/20771 myself, been running it since friday w/o issue.

Re: Best / most stable / fastest / most preferred SYS version

How would you compare 20771 to 20764 and 21018? Where did the 20771 come from? I'm thinking of dropping back to 20764 since that was the last SYS I have that came from an official shipping HTC release (Diamond WWE release in this case). If your 20771 is also an official release and since you have such good things to say about it, I may give that a shot as well.

fr4nk1yn 03-08-2009 01:07 AM

Re: Best / most stable / fastest / most preferred SYS version

The 20771 SYS I used was from the leaked AT&T ROM.
I only tried 20764 briefly since something didn't work since it was for a Diamond.
I've not compared it to 21018 but since you asked.. I'd say it's just as fast.
When I say fast I mean the responsiveness to button presses and menus.
21018, and 21015, didn't scroll as fast and 20931, 20771 is just as smooth.

Flash my ROM and give it a try. You'll be impressed with 20771 for sure.

FormerPalmOS 03-08-2009 01:32 AM

Re: Best / most stable / fastest / most preferred SYS version

Downloading your ROM now. I guess I'll find out but did you leave the manifests intact - i.e. can I recover the SYS - that's all I really want. I also just finished porting the 20771 XIP with my filesystem tweaks (once tested will post it as XIP 7E).

fr4nk1yn 03-08-2009 01:37 AM

Re: Best / most stable / fastest / most preferred SYS version

uh... Let's pretend I'm a n00b. (: Manifest what? o:
I didn't change anything really.
Matched it up to my other SYSs deleting unneeded/unused folders.
Copied a WinCENLS_WWE and your 20764 XIP and cooked.

If you want the SYS I used I'll upload.

FormerPalmOS 03-08-2009 02:23 AM

Re: Best / most stable / fastest / most preferred SYS version

The .dsm file is the manifest. It gives you the version and package contents. You can speed up your ROM by consolidating them into one package (also known as "protecting" your ROM). But your ROM had exactly what I was looking for - working on it now, will finish up tomorrow hopefully.

Thx.

Re: Best / most stable / fastest / most preferred SYS version

I uploaded the SYS to the same account as the ROM just in case.

Now how about that XIP7E? (: I'm giddy with anticipation.

Awesome - thanks. Which of 21027 or 21028 (if either) has been officially released in an HTC ROM?

I am no longer on 21028, I moved up again. it seemed decent. I prefered 21027 more though. I am now on 21032. and that thing is smoking fast. menus and start menu and everything load up instatly. No wating for anything. it really is quite nice.

21032 is a real SYS found on the Topaz. FYI.

I need to flash another ROM.
There's something "weird" about the latest unreleased ROM I'm using, that has XIP 7E.
It just bogs down unexplainably. Not blaming the XIP, I have two other changes to the ROM.

I'd like to learn what he's doing,

I read the XDA post about XIP porting and read this thread and all i can say is this shi7 is beyond me.

Re: Best / most stable / fastest / most preferred SYS version

Hey, only my wife gets to tell me what I'm doing without asking. Just to manage expectations accordingly, I just finished flashing 20771 and plan to play with that for a while. I will probably take a look at 21032 or 21033 (frankly, whichever Conflipper says is the better of the two) and port that over plus apply my mojo. But most likely not in the next few days.

BTW - the 20771 SYS from the AT&T Fuze has a lot of dlls and exes that can be moduled. I moduled everything including office and it is working. Only file that cannot be moduled is os\rsaenh.dll - don't know why and no plans to try to figure it out.

21033 is a fake, 32 is real, and it weird it a mix of 21028 and 21032, it is extremly fast,
