EDIT 2: Conclusions are in! See post #22 of this thread for what I discovered, and how I figured it.
EDIT:In this thread, I ended up loading all 6 currently available radio ROMs and benchmarking them with a utility hosted over at XDA Devs (Thanks PalladiumTD!) That utility is located here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=444920. If someone with better eyes for interpreting large amounts of similar text data can analyze my logs and come to some conclusions, I'd appreciate it! Hello. I have read various threads that mention a newer radio (from Telus?) that works on the CDMA Touch Pro. (Sprint). Try as I might, I have been unable to find this radio in the upgrades forum. I use my TP as my only Internet connection at home for my desktop (via USB), and even with the keyboard out and the screen off, it gets AMAZINGLY hot sometimes. It seems that the more data that is transferred at once, the hotter it gets. (i.e, cool(er) during low b/w usage, really hot during 2xx/kB/s BT transfers.) I have read that the new radio improves battery life, helps the phone run cooler, and may even improve reception. Where can I find it, and how do I load it? Thanks! Power Log #1 - Radio version 1.03.15F
- Stock Setup (Some programs loaded, but nothing major.) - Charging via USB - Power CPL set to not turn off during test - LCD Auto-dim off, LCD at maximum brightness - Keyboard open, sitting untouched on desk during test Logs enclosed as attachments. Part 1 zipped due to exceeding file size limit. Last edited by SweetBearCub; 01-31-2009 at 11:27 AM. Reason: Added radio version info |

Re: Newer radio? (Telus?)
just type ##DEBUG# in the phone app. It will let you see the signal strength in dBm. I see about an 8-10 dBm improvement with the Telus radio in the same spot...

Re: Newer radio? (Telus?)
Seems to me the Following
Radio version 1.03.15F Temp is lower than all the rest with the highest at 50.88F but the drawback is it has high power consumption Radio version 1.11.00F THis one the Temp is at highest 56.12F but the power consumption was low Radio version 1.04.05V (Telus) The highest temp here was 55.56F and the power consumption was fairly the same as 1.11.00F Conclusion: 1.03.15F -> LOW TEMP but MASSIVE BATTERY DRAIN 1.11.00F -> HIGHER TEMP but LOWER CONSUMPTION 1.04.05V -> BETTER TEMP ans SAME CONSUMPTION as 1.11.00F These were my views. |
