Only other way (and I know this is where Scott is going) is to swap the custom Samsung NAND+RAM chip from a Sprint device to the VZW device. Sammy did two custom jobs for HTC - both chips use the same 512MB NAND flash device, and the same 256MB SDRAM device. They blow redundancy fuses in the 256MB SDRAM device to deactivate banks, making it a 192MB device. So no recovery of memory without disassemble and BGA re-work (expensive) And thanks Verizon - A$$holes - why did they do this? They have an exclusive on Blackberry Storm and make more $$$ on that one so they didn't want the TP to be too kick-a$$ - and Sprint has an exclusive on their Touch Pro so HTC had to come up with a lesser device. Now if only Sprint's customer service and network didn't suck so badly compared to Verizon...

That right there, is the best rational i've heard about why VZW did what they did to the TP. Thanks for that! |

Yea, I actually had a in store sales rep tell me that they have a contract with BB and that is why they push BB products and not the others. Dont know if they would cripple a phone for that reason. But hey......this IS Verizon were talking about so theres no telling what they would do

I do love my TP though. I think it would be AWESOME if it were possible to upgrade the RAM....awesome..... Thanks for all the work you do Scott (and the rest of the crew). You have all filled my head and time with wonderful things to play with and enhanced my device to no end. |

Re: XV6850 Teardown - Bottom half complete with 7 meg pics
Scott-
You said that your replacement TP had a better quality screen and buttons. I finally got a chance to open mine and take it out. It's a refurb and the button assembly below the screen is raised about a half a millimeter above the screen. I think that this should be flush. Whats up with the quality control on these devices lately? I had a slew of junk Titans from VZW, even NEW replacements they sent. I was wondering about your screen in relation to the buttons. are they flush? I think you said that the new one had the buttons working better. Thanks!

Just to clarify - On your TP is the screen flush with the button overlay? Sorry, I didn't understand your answer. I've attached a pic of my replacement showing the button overlay clearly sticking up above the screen It just doesn't seem right. With tough economic times is HTC employing even younger children to assemble these devices. What gives! FYI - I tried your 6.5 beta and its pretty cool - thanks! |
