Touch Pro ROM Update on the way + GPS Fix?
Posted: 23 Jan 2009 01:56 PM PST

We caught word just a few days ago about a HTC Diamond ROM update for Sprint and worldwide, but now it look like the Touch Pro is getting ready for one too.

Evidently, Alexandr Skaryd from XDA had a conversation with HTC Europe about the GPS lag problem. The crux of the convo is below:
Dear Mr. Skaryd I just wanted to get back to you in order to see if you have gotten the GPS working better. I would also like to inform you that there will be a ROM upgrade available in the near future (1.19). Please feel free to get back to us at any time if you have any further questions or queries. Kind Regards Dave Montanya HTC Europe

The bigger news is that HTC appears to be aware of this GPS lag and one can hope that this upcoming ROM addresses this problem.
In case you don't feel like waiting though, head over to M're undefined , who has a very detailed post explaining a "hack" you can do to improve your GPS. Not suprisingly, it partially involves turning off aGPS, amongst other things. Check it out, it seems to be working for folks.

if i posted in the wrong area i'm sorry

Appreciate the heads up, but 1.19, isn't that for GSM based models? Concerned only because this is posted on the CDMA portion of the threads/forum and wanted to confirm.

Re: touch pro official rom update plus gps fix

I think most people here are getting confused as to whether we are talking about a 3rd dimensional issue (it being able to accurately pin-point your standing location) or a 4th dimensional issue (it showing your location accurately but lagging and and showing where you were 4-5 seconds ago.) 3rd dimensionally they should all be extremely accurate...I know mine is! 4th dimensionally (time) it shows on screen that I am passing a street that I went by about 4-5 seconds before thus killing your moving map accuracy. My friend's Verizon Touch Pro and my Sprint Touch Pro were held side by side and they both were about 4-5 seconds delayed. A buddy in North Carolina has the Fuze and is coming to visit in a week or so, so I will be able to test his against mine then. From what I hear it is an issue affecting Touch Pros across the board.
