Re: ++25 Jan 09++ [VZW] SSK 1.2 - {CE OS 21109} Kitchen and ROM's!

I haven't even got that far...

I'm connecting to the network and able to get onto the internet, but I'm not seeing any network resources (My NAS (Buffalo) or any computer)

This is probably not a function of the ROM, but I thought someone might have experienced this

Suggestions?

Thanks

Anyone else using or seeing this?

My friend who's in such a fringe EVDO area gets maybe 70% of the battery life that I do, and I'm certain I use mine more. Some radio software could conceivably handle tower swaps or error correction for weak signals better than others. Anyway, just a thought that would support both your findings and the what other people have reported.
Variable radio power output is an integral part of CDMA. The tower and your mobile terminal constantly negotiate the transmit power at each end necessary to achieve a target received power at the other. If you have a weaker signal, your TX power will be higher and your battery will drain faster. Even in stand-by. When talking, it's faster still. And on EVDO with a weak signal, if you listen close you'll hear a giant sucking sound...

Also, there is no way to instantaneously measure the current draw in this phone - you have to average. I assume the program Bob has been using does this (though not sure how). And there is no such thing as a 1% accurate Li-Ion battery meter. Battery life is calculated by the battery manager chip as an integration of current over time, corrected at each full re-charge for decreasing battery capacity. The reported error is more like +/- 10% so just because you see 1% increments don't mean they are meaningful. Not trying to be negative here, just tell it like it is.

Which ROM did you install, or did you use the kitchen?

"Full QWERTY" will not be available if you cooked your own and did not add the HTC Keyboard.

Hope that helps!
The keyboard shown above is the standard Microsoft WM6 SIP keyboard. The nicer looking compact QWERTY and full QWERTY come with the HTC Keyboard option in the kitchen. You also get stuck with the switcher app that sucks up 1.6MB of your memory doing nothing. It is possible to disable the app and default the keyboard to the HTC full QWERTY - you get the nicer keyboard and keep the memory, but you lose the switcher capability (and for some reason it jacks up the font - but I can live with it).

Here's a fun boot splash screen for anyone interested. Use your favorite ROM Updater to install the attached .NBH file. You DO NOT have to hard reset after installing this, and it changes nothing other than the boot splash (what you see immediately when pressing the power button).
