Pagepool and OS memory

So the TP has 288 megs of RAM. Pagepool apparently takes away from program memory and adds it to the OS memory. What exactly does this help with? I mean could it enhance video playback, startup processes? I also heard SIPs are loaded from the OS memory. Is this true. What other benefits of increasing pagepool memory? http://blogs.msdn.com/windowsmobile/...17/494177.aspx . I read this article, but I still don't know how this applies to ur devices seeing we have so much RAM to begin with.

Also battery life. I've noticed some people complaining of poor battery life setting 48 megs of pagepool. How is this possible if there isn't any more battery drain setting it to 24 mbs or 36?

Re: Pagepool and OS memory

less pp= less speed and more ram

More pp= better performence (speed) and less ram

See, that's not very intuitive because pp = less speed and more ram, but more ram should also mean more speed.

You misunderstand. More ram available to programs, but that means less ram allocated to the operating system. In the Touch Pro, given how much RAM we have, most of the slowdown is in the operating system (rotating the screen, switching applications, etc). Thus less pp = less speed and more ram because the ram isn't reserved for the OS and thus is "free", but the OS either doesn't have as much RAM or has to go allocate as it needs it.

It's kinda like a swap file on a computer, but faster =]

so it appears to me that there's supposed to be an ideal pp and that a higher pp would be moot because the OS functions wouldn't need it or be able to utilize it anyways.

Exactly what I'm thinking, anything over 24mb is overkill IMO
