WTF, I definitely didn't remove it. So far I'm not liking this forum change. I'll try and get it back up here.

EDIT - I dunno what happened but it's back now. Have at it.

Re: [8-3-09] eRice New Style TP Kitchen [Build 23016.5.3.0]

Thanks guys. I'll def try it when I make a new rom with the new build.

Rice, so far the rom has run flawless. I've been using the phone more with your kitchen setup and love it. And I think thats one of the only issues I have with it. Ha, not much of an issue huh.

I would kinda like a full phone keypad for onscreen keyboard but I don't know what exactly to copy over from ppcgeeks buildos to do that.

I'm gonna upgrade to the newer build now and try those fixes...

Other then that, the cash stuff someone else mentioned, well I don't know what your talking about. However everything of mine is on SD Card, and I tried a few video's and had no issue. What I've been doing with music, is converting all my music from high quality MP3 to 96kbps wma using WMA Workshop. Just for file size since you never notice quality deterioration like you would on MP3, with WMA and over headphones... yeah.

I'm gonna try those fixes first. If that doesn't work I'm gonna try a new road on lowering the file size of music. See if normal sized files work fine.

***edit*** No those files didn't work. I'll try a different Audio Manager. and then if that doesn't work, move onto playing with the files themselves to see if its a problem with running WMA's. No need to really worry about it to much cause it doesn't skip that much, only a couple times per song.

I've been using your ROM for several days now and I love it. WM6.5 is a great upgrade over 6.1. I just wanted to thank you for your work on this.

Re: [8-3-09] eRice New Style TP Kitchen [Build 23016.5.3.0]

Very friendly, and easy to use. Must say I enjoy wm6.5 far more then 6.1. The rom is smooth, and very fast coming from the stock rom.

I do have a question though. Really would like to start building a rom with oem's I enjoy, and I just can't seem to get them to work. Is there a tutorial out there that explains it a bit better. I've read the ones at ppckitchen, but can't seem to get it down.

I enjoy the automation, but with it is the lack of explanation as to what is being done. Trying to fish around and find the right tutorials, but seems they all differ slightly. Hopefully I'm not making an arse of myself here. Just at wits end.

Thanks.

Re: [8-3-09] eRice New Style TP Kitchen [Build 23016.5.3.0]

Great ROM, I love it, there's only one difference I noticed from another 6.5 ROM that I've used... This uses more memory... a lot more. I notice on startup that the task manager stops around 29% and then everything locks up for a few second, the screen dims down a tad and the memory usage shoots up to 39%.. Is this a service or process that I don't need using all that RAM? I already installed MemMaid and saw there is an opera process running, an albumsearcher process running and an audiomanager process running, all of which i dont need but Im not sure how to stop them indefinitely.. any help would be great, i like running around 30% mem usage it seems to be optimal for everything to run smoothly.. thanks

Re: [8-3-09] eRice New Style TP Kitchen [Build 23016.5.3.0]

callmesaul8889, At first startup this happens? Have you setup the Task Manager program inside Start>Settings>System>Task Manager to turn off the programs when you click X? If not, go to that area, click the Button Tab and click "shut off when I click X", automatically its set to only close the program when you click and hold X. So you might have tasks constantly staying on.

On a fresh startup, my phone is around 45% Memory Used. I no longer use Windows Media Player because its a huge memory hog, after each song it will kill memory about 10% and end up crashing the phone. Its like this with every rom I've seen. HTC Audio Manager doesn't use anything compared to this. During Music Playback, my phone might see 50% of memory usage. MAX Memory usage I've seen has been 55% and thats while jammin music and browsing the web using the bulky Opera Mobile 9.5. Opera Mini doesn't use any resources like Mobile does, and is alot faster and cleaner for browsing web pages, but is harder to integrate into the phone.

I have my Task Manager program to show me Memory being used. Not Free Memory.

LMK if you need any help with something. I flash about 3 roms a day on my phone because I'm testing things out. This kitchen/rom setup is just almost virtually flawless. I too have kinda noticed the adding contacts thing. But it was when I was receiving an email, I wanted to save the email address into my contacts, and everytime I'd click save, nothing would happen.

RICE, I have a question. I'm trying to setup the kitchen to hold my Ringtones so I don't have to have them on The SD Card. Because once HTC Audio Manger see's them, they are permanently there. its a PITA. Now I got the sounds integrated properly. But the area that held the oem ring tones, I deleted them and replaced them with my ring tones. Burnt a rom and they weren't there. They were on the phone, but inside the Windows Directory with the rest of the sounds. What am I doing wrong? Where can I put the ring tones so that they will be burnt onto the rom automatically in the "Rings" folder?

check out your initflashfiles.txt in your oem package. it should look something like this if you want to move files on a hard reset...

Code:

Directory("\Windows\Rings"):-File("MyRingTone03.mp3","\Windows\MyRingTone03.mp3")
if a file named MyRingTone03.mp3 exists in another OEM package, BuildOS will fail. You can remove the other duplicate or do something like this...

Rename YOUR MyRingTone03.mp3 to zzz-MyRingTone03.mp3 in the OEM package, and change your initflashfiles.txt to look like this...

Code:

Directory("\Windows\Rings"):-File("MyRingTone03.mp3","\Windows\zzz-MyRingTone03.mp3")
So, the syntax of this line is
Code:

Directory("DESTINATION_FOLDER"):-File("MY_FILES_NEW_NAME","\Windows\MY_FILES_ORIGINAL_NAME")
Hope this makes sense.

Re: [8-3-09] eRice New Style TP Kitchen [Build 23016.5.3.0]

Yes, I figured it out. I copied all the files over to the OEM>Additional Ringtones> folder and I'm now modifying the initflashfiles.txt. And I guess with this I can click the Additional Ringtones selection while building the kitchen and it will add my ringtones. Great!

Stupid they should have made a folder specifically for the Rings Folder, so you can just copy files over, instead of having to not only copy the file over, but add the code into the initflashfiles.txt file.

Thanks Alot!

I don't understand. I meant as in Copying the ringtones from my computer, to to phones kitchen. Cause I make my own ringtones. And go through roms like I take showers. So I would like to be able to just copy the new ringtone I've made, to the folder and be done with it, instead of adding the code. But its fine this way.

I don't understand that file you attatched.

i dont mean to sound rude at all, but im a little more advanced than this, i really appreciate the response tho.. i cant tell you how many times ive posted somewhere and never gotten a response..
my issues are that this is the 3rd ROM of 6.5 ive tried(2nd of 23016).... first one was PPC kitchen, i cooked my own, and at startup i had 29% mem usage max.. after s2u2 and titanium weather im at about 32% once everything's loaded.
I just installed energyrom and it's a pretty hefty ROM with a lot of stuff goin on and it starts up with 35% mem usage and it's pretty quick with all my stuff running...

butttt, i like this kitchen's rom, its nice and simple, i just want to figure out why this(fairly clean) ROM starts up and has 43-46% mem usage right off the bat... and the fact that it's a considerable amount slower bothers me..
if anyone knows of a service or startup item thats making this rom bog down, id really appreciate some help :) im just picky i guess :) thanks:headbang:

To cook applications you like into a ROM using the kitchen, you must either find or create an OEM for it, and put it into the OEM directory in the kitchen folders. Afterwards, you must click the checkbox for this OEM for it to be cooked into the ROM. There really shouldn't be anything else to it.

I'll take a look into the memory issue. The contacts problem has been fixed and I'll upload the fixed Build Pack in a little bit. As for the ringtones, you must have the files added to the Additional Ringtones OEM, and have the ringtone filenames properly added to the "initflashfiles.txt" file in that OEM so that the kitchen places the tones into the proper folder. If they're not added to initflashfiles, then the kitchen doesn't know where to place them and just adds them to \\Windows by default.

Re: [8-3-09] eRice New Style TP Kitchen [Build 23016.5.3.0]

Seems that on startup, there are four .exes that seem to be taking up an awful lot of memory:

cprog.exe 9.92M (dialer related)
filesys.exe 9.64M
opera9.exe 6.51M (added by "Preload Programs" OEM)
device.exe 5.08M

One suggestion would be to remove "Preload Programs" from the OEM folder and cook without it. That shouls shave off some memory being used on startup. As for the others, I'm not too sure where they can be trimmed.

Yeah, u need to add the code.

Code:

<characteristic type="%CE2%\Rings\Ring-Random.wma" translation="install">
            <characteristic type="Move">
                <parm name="Source" value="%CE2%\Ring-Random.wma" translation="install"/>
            </characteristic>
</characteristic>

%CE2% is the \Windows folder of ure phone. So, this says the source file is "%CE2%\Ring-Random.wma" and it needs to be "Move" to "%CE2%\Rings\Ring-Random.wma"

edit: replace metadata folder with the one from 23009 and that covers it.

i've got a nagging issue regarding build 23016 and wmplayer. when starting wmp the volume is defaulted to 0 (zero) which i raise to 100%. the volume of the unit is fine, but when i close wmplayer the volume defaults back to zero. this in turn affects the volume of videos played on the full screen player. any one seeing this?

UPDATE - one problem solved another found...

when cooking with build pack 23016 (fixed) the battery and backlight options in start / settings / system are not present... no problem with build pack 23008 using the same OEM's. i have tried with both kitchen packs with no luck

I need a good, working kitchen, I tried PPCKitchen and added the unofficial files and I can't get my touch pro to boot. It stays at Touch Pro screen and after 20 seconds it reboots.

Where do I download Kitchen 1.1?

hmmmmm... looks like the kitchen packs were removed

i would love to point you in a precise direction, but given how uptight some folks have been around here i will say this... search the main thread for cdma touch pro upgrades and you will find the "last" good kitchen i have tried

It has nothing to do with being uptight, it has to do with the new "moderators" coming into threads like mine and removing my links. The issue in question was the MusicID OEM which I find ridiculous to have to remove and reupload, especially with how widesread the software is.

Can you please send me a link in PM? I am using PPCKitchen, got it to work now. Im using Unofficial 23405 build. A few bugs, but doable.

I SECOND THAT! Not too much stuff out for sprint and especially this device, that runs fast and reliable. I have been kicking myself in the ass last few days, and even considering exchanging for some other sprint device.

eRice, you still out there? My Apache with my custom cooked 6.5 ROM finally died this week. Just got a HTC Touch Pro (RAPH800) as the replacement from my equipment protection insurance. I know you've moved on to newer phones, but I have to make this thing last until I get a Windows Phone 7 device. Is your HTM Touch Pro kitchen still available? I'd really like to get 6.5 on this thing.

Thanks,
