So is the only way to adjust this setting by modifying your rom and reflashing?

Wouldn't mind playing with this a bit, but just want to make sure there isn't an easier method before I wipe out the phone again

ummm, well I'm using JD's latest rom which is set to 6...edited it to 24...
And my mem usage isn't changing so I'm assuming the edit didn't work.

Any thoughts as to why?

I dont think it is a placebo I know it is you can change the pagepool to anything you want but your total progam memory will not change which tells the the item and line you are changing is not adjusting the pagepool in any way.

I thought I understood what pagepool does but I don't think I do. Let me get this straight -> so the higher the pagepool the more RAM being allocated for OS use and less Program memory there available? What are the ramifications of this? For example would one be able to include more startup processes and services without a decrease in performance? What other benefits would TP users notice in increasing pp? thanks.

You misunderstand. The pagepool changer does what it is supposed to, but the value it sets is ignored by the OS. Any perceived change in system behaviour is therefore wishful thinking.
