I decided to try this myself. It did not work with splash screen task29 or the os partition that Swinn made or the radio included options either. so for now it seems that it is usb only.
Yeah the task29 is triggered by the modified rom update utility. There is another way to do it, but you still have to connect it via usb.

Do you happen to know if that other method requires the use of ActiveSync or even where to find out what the other method is?
