But it doesn't really remove the older version does it?

Oh it most certainly does. The first time you try to install it prompts to remove the earlier version.. then it prompts to reset... when the phone comes back up you won't have any version of cookie installed. Just the normal home tab. Then you can go ahead and install 1.7.1 for real...

Just a little FYI-root didnt fully cook in Co0kie 1.7. He ran it and CHTEditor as cabs during customization. This makes them removeable under Settings/System/Remove Programs vs. fully cooked in mods which can not be removed by the user.
Co0kie may have also written 1.7.1 to look for older versions but as talented as he is I doubt he could make it uninstall fully cooked in mods.
EDIT:
So now we can uninstall and apply Co0kie upgrades without issue.

Not sure I follow on "still having the reception thing"? Do you mean your signal icon in the taskbar is searching constantly? If so there have been a bunch of posts (some of them mine) lately about applying a signal fix cab, they are generally taskbar specific.
I used the cab already. But without it I get the constantly searching. I just thought it only effected a few people, so I thought maybe it was due to a bad flash. But if its a common problem then I'm all good.

Just gotta say that I'm using the latest DarkRoot and I'm very happy. I don't even think that I'll flash the next version unless there are some drastic changes. I think that Root might be the best chef ever! I've never seen anyone else release a consistantly perfect ROM!

EDIT: Incredible. I think that's all I really have to say about the new DarkRoot. Lightening fast response...and cookie's mod is just wow.

I don't know if anyone will read this far, but if you get the "SetSysTimezone" error, copy the exe I posted to your Windows directory - I think that'll fix it. I just noticed the error when I soft reset and didn't see the exe linked to the thread. Maybe my search skills have once again failed me. Anyway, I linked it to this post. ENJOY!

How is battery life for everyone?
I am running Red with a standard battery today.
11 hours of moderate use, calling customers all day in the field.
I am now at 43%
Pretty good.
