is there anyway from having the touch screen keyboard from popping up when you open your text messages?

I don't think so. It is like that in every rom including stock. I suggest you use it more than keyboard anyway or else you will just burn out your keyboard.

There is a little app called null keyboard if I remember right that may help you with the issue of the on screen keyboard popping up...

People here have been helpful so far, I am on the stock ROM (again), tried to install the new maxdarkroot ROM but it keeps failing. I think it may be with the mini USB port on the phone. As the computer doesn't always see it. So a new phone is in the future. I am going to leave the stock ROM on it till I know what my next phone will be. But I really hate the red or green bars. Does anyone have a link or cab to where I can install black ones?

ROOT - Downloaded the new 020110 2.5 MAXROOT, flashed it, and it is the MAXDARKROOT. Double checked my download and it was the MAXROOT link, NOT the MaxDark link. Just thought you should know.
