You never want to restore system data when upgrading a ROM, you can restore app data but never system. I been upgrading every time Deck releases a new build and NEVER had a issue when restoring my apps with data.

Re: [4-16-11][ROM] gingerbread-evo-deck [pre3][1.0]

My friend and I both get, "started with errors" on Wireless Tethering.
Activating WiFi interface... Failed
Setting ad-hoc mode... Failed
Setting essid...
Failed
Setting channel...
Failed

Do we need a different tether app or is there a trick we need to apply?
Thanks!

May i ask why never to restore system data? I did it on all the roms before and usually it worked great and restored everything and nothing happened...Just wondering..

Did you restore system data from a sense rom to this ROM?? You can't do that, I was talking about restoring system data from the same ROM it's just from pre2 to pre3...You can't restore system data from a sense ROM because it's an entirely different system, you would have to just restore apps + app data

I will give pre3 a try today when i have more time to tinker.

Again I have to say - RC10 has been SUPERB for me. Nice work.
Full wipe and installed pre3. No problems to report. GPS locked quickly, VVM seems to have provisioned. Will have to wait to try 4G Monday when in a 4G area. Restored some apps alone and some with data using TB with no problems.

Another great release!

If you're flashing a new version, you should never restore system data. Things change. I know there was enough changes between 2 & 3 that some of my theming didn't work.

You should only do apps and app-data. Anything more, as you've discovered, creates problems.

Edit: I type too slow.

I had no trouble - activated with no errors and my MacBook picked it right up.

Did you do a clean install with wipe? I had just done a clean install with a full wipe before I tried this, using the built in tether.

Re: [4-16-11][ROM] gingerbread-evo-deck [pre3][1.0]

I've noticed the CPU runs at 100% onsystem panel on 3 where version 2 it was WAY lower. I have an older Evo and my GF has a newer. Media seems to have wakelock at 50% on both...Ive tried different set ups but when I flash back to version 2 its not as high. Full wipe on both....ideas?

logged into terminal and ran top command: this is ehat I see...

PID CPU% S #THR VSS RSS PCY UID Name
170 94% S 60 205500K 45912K fg system system_server
2444 0% S 1 940K 384K fg root top
339 0% S 25 129948K 38768K bg app_8 com.google.android.gm
2429 0% S 10 109044K 17916K fg app_56 jackpal.androidterm
2488 0% R 1 936K 376K fg root top
122 0% S 3 2772K 336K fg compass /system/bin/akmd

so for me system server is utilizing 94% CPU... just not sure if it should be - everything else seems quiet...
