Yes that's possible. This file is very similar to the one whitslack from XDA created and to run HIS file you had to have Nand unlocked.
You WANT full root access because even if you never delve into the depths of the ROM, the ROMS these days are written for full access.

It's very easy. You want to just run Toast Part II.
Dunno how you rooted originally but check FastRX8's thread and start with Section 2 Version 2 Using the PC. *EDIT-If that won't work you may need to start the root process over like cuban4lf said*
Dont freak-it involves another PC36IMG file but THAT one should work for you if you already did Toast 1. Gotta tap out now. Good luck.

First, .zip.zip will never work. Second are you Nand unlocked ("fully" rooted)? If not this post is for you too.

well, i still haven't been able to flash and i'm about ready to throw this phone across the room.

trying to do a full root and i keep running into the same problems as before because it won't load any PC36IMG file, as in the ones you need to do a full root of the phone. trying to use the 3 click method and keep having the same problem as OMJ's file (yes i deleted his file off of my sd card.)

any ideas or suggestions from anyone? this is really frustrating.

basically, it just won't load or see correctly the PC36IMG file. it tries to load it but it appears like it doesn't see it correctly for some reason. i have the same problem even loading the file on a blank card

What recovery are you currently running? What build number is the ROM i.e.(1.47.651.1) of your phone?

baseband 1.39.00.05.31
sofware 1.32.651.6 OMJ
recovery clockworkMod 2.0.1.3

basically this is the exact sequence i get when trying to flash OMJ's rom 1 or trying to flash the PC36 to fully root my phone

sd checking...
loading...[PC36DIAG.zip]
no image!
loading...[PC36DIAG.nbh]
no image or wrong image!
loading...[PC36IMG.zip]

CHecking...[PC36IMG.zip]

then i never get an option to install it just goes right back to the original screen.

Hey knives of ice, I am in the same boat as you with my wifes evo, mine went just fine...anyways, I flashed the stock RUU to get back to the beginning and the PC36IMG.zip is being installed for the root process so hopefully going back to stock is working.

Until going back to stock no PC36IMG would work..nothing...at all. Would say checking PC36IMG then flip back to bootloader screen.

Looks to me like you need to unlock NAND first. Have you tried this thread?

Are you preparing the file the way it says to do so in that post? If you are not that is why it may be stopping mid-stream. The files are not the same as the PC36 file that is attached on this post they are different. So make sure that you are downloading the file from that page I sent you, that you don't have the file from this thread in the same download folder, then you have to prepare the file in the correct way (as stated in the post) then try it.

If that still doesn't work, then I'm pretty sure (not positive) that it won't mess anything up if you go into recovery and use the 'install zip from sdcard' option and point to that file. ***May want to wait for someone more experienced though as I'm not liable if this bricks your phone*****

I tried doing that yesterday...it did nothing. Nothing seemed to be working. I am having some progress but will wait until I am fully updated to say what works and what else doesnt.

knives of ice here is the stock RUU...http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=685835

if you are not able to load any files at all try formatting the SD Card, I believe is gotta be fat32 and do not use the quick format. GL
