I just rooted my evo and loaded evo2.1 Eclair 1.5. Everything is working fine... Except for the wireless tether. I can open it, but when I press to start the tether, process android.tether stops unexpectedly and I must force close it. Anyone else run into this issue? Am I doing something stupid?.. Wouldn't be the first time.

Thanks

I had the same problem. I uninstalled, then reinstalled, it works great now.

major question about the updates. Is the radio problem just with the revoked up date or if you flash the radio and wimax radio will you still have the lack of 4G operation correctly

Do you uninstall to the original rom, or is there a way to uninstall/reinstall in one step? I followed step by step instructions to do this, so I am still getting my feet wet. Thanks for the help!

He means reinstall wifi tether. Its in the market. I'd give you more specific instructions but my phone isn't in front of me.. shocker I know. You can either hit downloads in the Market and remove/reinstall it from there or go to settings / applications and remove it from there and then redownload it from the market.

It seems to be updating wimax is the culprit.
There are quite a few fixes floating around and I looked into most of them.
The consensus seems to be that the whitslack method in my sig is the most consistent. Not perfect if you read the thread but the unsuccessful posts are rare.
I dont have 4G but I am confident it worked as I confirmed I had the latest wimax and a correct mac address in adb. Even without 4G I see big improvements in 3G speeds and battery life.
OMJ will be dropping a new ROM soon-ish and I know functioning 4G is one of his goals.

How you going to be more specific? Do it for him? :laughing6:

You are spot on Doc. Just thought I'd mention if you just DL the app from the Market it says it will uninstall the old one for you but that is not 100% successful.

ALL credit to frankenstein @XDA

Thought I'd mention-
If anyone wants to get adb remount back and have a # by default when you run adb shell then frankenstein over a xda has been kind enough to fix it for us. This is just something to play with. I gave OMJ a heads up-dunno if he needed it or not. I tested it and it works fine.

OK, as promissed...

Here is the kernel with the modified default.prop that allows the use of adb remount to remount the /system partition read\write. This mod also allows you to go directly to the # prompt when you do adb shell without having to enter su to get root access in the shell. The only mod in this kernel is the change to default.prop which allows these things.

I've been running the kernel with the moded default.prop for about 6 hours with no problems. I've run quadrant and linpack as well as google goggles, Layar, mahjong, jewels and a significant number of other apps as well; constantly since loading the mod all without problem. Everything works.

Do a nandroid backup before you flash this. Then you can easily fail back to the original kernel by restoring your nandroid backup or by flashing the stock-kernel.zip I've included here as well.

To flash, just copy it to the root of your sd card then reboot into recovery and select flash zip. Then select the zip file and let fly.

I'm attaching both the unmodified kernel as stock-kernel.zip

and

the one with the modified default.prop as default-prop-mod-kernel.zip

both are signed and can easily be flashed via recovery.

so all the issues with WIMAX is due to the fact that individuals installed the OTA or install the 1.47 files after they are rooted. Thats my question I will like to know i have read all the fixes and problems, but no one is being specific on the installed files after being rooted.
