Re: Alltel Users - What ROM are you running?

ever since con started slowing down, i started working on my own rom. as a previous owner of a mogul, i ran DCD roms- which were hands down the best. so with the DCD mentality (very cleaned out rom) i took the alltel stock rom and just decompiled the hell out of it. removed everything i could, updated some of the things i took out that i still wanted. oh, and customized every inch.

i'm still working on removing even more things (FWUpdates, Catalog, CommonNonEA, Ceipui.exe, SQM, IPSECVPN, Enterprise, Error Reporting, and AutoUpdate)...but i am actually trying to get some guidance on these- making sure its cool to take these things out. [hey btw if you who are reading this right now is knowledgeable on these things, PM me please! At least point me to somewhere i can read about these things...]

pic messaging works for me too, and i tried a LOT of different ways to get it to work on other custom roms out there with no success. GPS works anywhere, no problems. and probably most importantly to me, its stable and has NO memory leaks. again, coming from owning a mogul i always had to be conscious of my memory usage, so its still a habit. I've gotten my rom to have only 65 mb ram in use, with just about 140 mb free at boot (using tf3d). I have under 20 mb storage space in use- 110 mb storage space free.

basically, i'm getting there...

Re: Alltel Users - What ROM are you running?

My only complaint in the past with non-Alltel specific ROMs (basically anything but Conflips) was the lack of pic messaging.

I may check out intx's ROM and see how it goes.

Re: Alltel Users - What ROM are you running?

I'm using the latest version of mighty rom 4.16. It has been working flawlessly for me. The cab for alltel picture messaging is in the 3rd post on that page. I can't think of 1 con that I have run into so far and I have been using it for about a week now! The only thing I am waiting for is the might rom with 6.5 to be released! Good Luck to you!

Re: Alltel Users - What ROM are you running?

I have also been using MightyROM on both the Diamond and Pro. I used Con's ROM's until he stopped making them. The pic messaging works great but you have to change a couple settings to make it work. I have had less problems with Mighty's than any other ROM's that I have tried. The pic messaging problems for Alltel are an easy fix but there is alot of misinformation about how to do it on this forum. The right info is there and it is easy to do.

please, share the info! give a link or copy/paste the info, since mms seems to be a topic that keeps coming up here.

Re: Alltel Users - What ROM are you running?

I've been using GrooveROM or FuFu wm6.5 ROM's. I just install the attached files to get them working on Alltel with everything. I haven't had any issues with any ROM using them.

Re: Alltel Users - What ROM are you running?

I install LennySh_Alltel_Arcsoft_3.0.26.12c first. Then install LennySh ArcSoft 5.0.71.33R3 Alltel. Then I uninstall the 3.0.26 cab. Soft reset. Then open messaging. Open sms/mms -> Menu -> Pics/Video Options -> Servers -> Alltel MMSC -> change port number to 80.

That's it. Tested with my Pro and my wife's diamond.

http://forum.htcgeeks.com/showthread.php?t=2 is where you get the files. These have been posted on this forum several times and you can find them if you search.

fyi seanborn: i've tried your method- it didnt work for me. i have 4 different versions of alltel-specific arcsoft mms, i found them by searching- go figure. i've tried using these versions and changing port numbers. tried your way of installing, installing, uninstalling, nothing. the best i can get is on some older versions of mightyrom getting arcsoft 3.x to work, showing up as an email acct.

mms is a main reason why ive started making my own custom roms (in large part b/c i enjoy what comes from my gf's phone to mine). i love the custom roms out there, but i hate that i cant get mms to work on them. so that is why i'd like to finally figure this out for myself. it would be nice.

but, reeseboy- ive never thought of trying those old dcd carrier cabs... i'm hoping...
