Hi everybody,

I just purchased a Sprint Diamond yesterday. I've already updated the radio, and put Juicy's 4.4 release onto it. The process went very smoothly. Many thanks to Juicy47 for all his work, and also to his "customers" in this thread. Thanks to all of your questions (and answers), I was able to hit the ground running.

I do have a question about the Google Mail app, and it might apply to some other Google apps as well: Do they work on the Diamond? I tried to download Gmail from their site (the Windows Mobile version), and my Diamond didn't know what to do with the resulting .jad file. I think there needs to be an associated .jar file as well, but who knows. Anyway, I thought it was odd that I hadn't run across much discussion of GMail, much less issues with it. Google's stuff usually "just works", and I was surprised that I hit any snags at all. I feel like I must be missing something obvious!

EDIT: Whoops, I thought of another question. Is the .NET Framework 3.5 included in this ROM? I downloaded that "hologram" program, and the performance is ridiculously bad. One of the suggested fixes is to install Framework 3.5. I wasn't sure whether Juicy had already supplied that, and I wasn't sure how to check.

On that note, is there, like, a description of this ROM anywhere? You know, something that describes Juicy's "design philosophy". (Higher performance, minimal bloat, perhaps?) But even better, is there a comprehensive list of everything included in the current version? I've read hundreds of posts, and looked at tons of of change-logs, but so far I haven't found an actual description and/or table-of-contents. I'm sure I've just missed it.

@ DaveNagy regarding a description of the ROM, check out the first post. I believe going through the change-logs is as much as a description or table of contents as your going to get.

Thanks. I was thinking that I'll just need to bite the bullet and go back and read through the earlier Juicy ROM threads as well. That will give me some insight into the ROM's "formative years". (Hard to believe how much has been done in such a short time.)

And yes, I guess the "SYS:" portion of the of the first post probably tells me everything... if only I was smart enough to understand it!

GMail does just work, just add it as a mail account in your mail settings and it will autodetect the settings as a gmail account, no GMail app is needed. It may also need POP enabled on your Gmail account, I am not sure because I always have it enabled.

Correct. You can also use the IMAP server with GMail. It takes a little more work to setup on your end, but all the directions on how to do both can be found on the GMail settings page.

I believe there is a core problem with the base kitchens used by the chefs, as of three non-stock ROMs I've used on the Diamond have the problem with Bluetooth shutting itself off. I have not had this issue with the stock ROM, which is what draws me to this conclusion. (So, obviously pure conjecture on my part.)

Fortunately, I have a Touch Pro that, when properly edited from a registry perspective, works great for my needs...thus, it is usable without a custom ROM. The Diamond, at this point, is relegated to a drawer.

The reason I posted this was to say that I don't think it's anything the chefs are, or are not, doing--it is probably one of the drivers utilized in the base from which they work.

I did notice that Google was "advertising" that I can access my Gmail account via IMAP or somesuch. I'm sure that will work well, and will be the lowest-overhead way to view any (new?) emails coming into that account. The thing is, I'm a bit of a Gmail fanboy. I really like the web interface, with the tagging and sorting, and the super fast searching of my years of accumulated mail (receipts, tracking numbers, photos, etc.). You know, Gmail!

Unless I'm misunderstanding, viewing my mail in a "normal" email app won't really give me all that. Now, I can totally view my Gmail page in Opera. I've already favorite-ed it, and it works pretty well. (The Diamond display is amazing. I wish my eyes were better.) But, I figured that a dedicated Gmail app might be a bit better, in the same way that the dedicated Google Maps app is a bit better than the browser-based page.

Which brings me back on topic. Yay! Juicy includes Google Maps in his ROM. Did he have to do some sort of black magic to make it work? If I went to Google's site and tried to download the Windows Mobile version of Google Maps, would I hit the same issues I hit with Gmail? (Those crazy .jad files?)

Just curious.

Is this Google's way of migrating us Windows users to Android?

Anyone having picture mail issues with this ROM, I can see the picture mail but unable to open them, I get a message about synchronizing.
