Actually, I believe the "my location" function does not use the GPS satellites. Instead it triangulates your position off of the cell towers so it would in fact depend on the radio and not the satellites. All that being said, I didn't think that "My Location" worked with the CDMA network, I thought it was a GSM exclusive.

Google Maps will use GPS for "My Location" if the GPS is functioning. You need to select "Use GPS" on the Menu - and should see a status bar in the upper right corner stating the number of satellites in use. Selecting the blue square in the lower right should bring up a message bar with info about how accurate the fix is...

If GPS is NOT enabled... It will default to the 'tower' method as Joe explained above.
