Re: Flashing a Rom or Radio from the 4 gig internal storage

I remember stuff like that happening on the mogul. Try flashing, hard reset, pop the battery, hard reset.

Re: Flashing a Rom or Radio from the 4 gig internal storage

Hey All,

Found this thread very helpful. I'm a Sprint Diamond user and plan on flashing a ROM for the first time when I get home from work and plan on trying this method. Seems pretty straightforward and don't expect any problems. I do have a few questions, however, that are probably pretty silly but I've never tried it before:

1. When you flash the ROM, do you lose all of your personal info such as email settings, emails, contacts, call history, etc.?
2. If you do lose the above stuff, what's the easiest way to preserve them or to get them back? I know there are backup programs but I've never used one and don't know which is best. This is why I'm hesitant to hard reset my phone as it takes forever to get all my programs back on as well as getting work email settings, etc. back on.
3. Those of you who frequently flash custom ROMs, what is the purpose? Is it to try them out? Are there other benefits? How long does it take to get you back up and running to where you were before after flashing, restoring previous settings, etc.?
4. The main reason I want to try this now is that I have extremely limited program storage space. For some reason, Windows takes up an insane amount of the program storage space (little more than half of the 256mb). By the time I start adding programs on, I've gone from ~100mb down to 10-20mb and notice a drop in performance. I've had to delete some things I'd rather keep on just to be able to put others on. Is this going to help since the ROM is on the internal storage? Is there another way to help free up some of that space? I've looked through my folders and I don't even have much loaded there and still have very little room. Most programs I try to install on the internal storage, but some have to go on the device and I'm simply out of room.

TIA for the help and look forward to trying this soon and will report back any success/failures.

Re: Flashing a Rom or Radio from the 4 gig internal storage

On my phone so I can't post files.
1. I would use ppcpimbackup to save contacts, texts, call history, emails. http://forum.ppcgeeks.com/attachment...4&d=1242156783
2. You can use UC or Sashimi to reinstall everything. I have never used IF. Sashimi is what I use. It's a little complicated at first but once you start reading up it and using it is easy. http://www.winmo-experts.com/viewforum.php?f=7
3. Flash until you find the one You like. Everyone has there own preference.
4. A custom ROM can have a lot of the stock programs removed that will free up that class for you to install what you want.

Re: Flashing a Rom or Radio from the 4 gig internal storage

+1 ^

I use pim backup to get my e-mails and texts.
besides that I used to do sashimi, but now I have found I only really need like 4 cabs ontop of most roms and to change the background so I do that by hand.

Flashing a custom rom will clear out ANYTHING installed into program memory and that does include texts and calls and contacts etc. so unless you sync to an exchange seriously look into ppcpimbackup or sprite backup. ppcpim is free sprite is not.

Re: Flashing a Rom or Radio from the 4 gig internal storage

Thanks, guys.

I used ppcpimbackup and worked pretty easily. Didn't save my outlook email settings but that was pretty easy to get back on.

Flashing the rom was pretty painfree and was up in running shortly after I found the ROM I liked.

Thanks again.

Re: Flashing a Rom or Radio from the 4 gig internal storage

Alright this tutorial given here is great, but I have having one problem I used the Sprint shipped.nph file from my internal hd, and changed the name properly,or so I believe, anyways what is happened the rom is loading very quickly all the way until the end and just stays there, incomplete. If I reset it takes me to the rainbow screen saying I have a "Upgrade ROM code error Please try again" any help on what I can do would be extremely helpful thanks.

Re: Flashing a Rom or Radio from the 4 gig internal storage

the correct name it should be is diamimg.nbh im not sure what you flashed before, was your phone unlocked? if it wasn't you need to find someone with a computer to flash the shipped version of the rom again. I'm guessing you were trying to relock?

Re: Flashing a Rom or Radio from the 4 gig internal storage

I flashed from my internal, energy rom3, and the processw went fine except the rom was acting unstable b/c I didn't flash the stock rom first. So then thats what I attempted to do and it seems like its working but gets stuck at the last possible second, is that common?
