How To's: Unlocking, Relocking, Flashing, Dumping and Troubleshooting
2 Attachment(s)
Before you do anything in this tutorial, I advise you backup, by syncing to your computer and/or using a program like PIMBackup or Microsoft MyPhone to save your contacts, calendars, call logs and texts. If you lose them, any other information, or your phone doesn't work because of something you read here, it's your own responsibility, you can choose to not do anything right now!
Also, there is no good way to backup any programs you have downloaded and installed on the phone, it's best to download and install them again, so don't ask where to find the programs you lost! THIS IS FOR CDMA DIAMONDS ONLY! IF YOU DO NOT HAVE A TELUS, SPRINT, ALLTEL, MTS, CELLULAR SOUTH OR BELL DIAMOND, DON'T DO THIS! This DOES NOT work on Verizon Diamonds as they are a completely different phone. Common Terms: Kitchen: A complilation of programs that deconstruct, allow customization, and reconstruct a ROM. ROM: Technically Read Only Memory, this is essentially the software on your phone that can be customized through a Kitchen and then Flashed onto your phone. Cooking: The process of using a Kitchen to customize a ROM. Flashing: The process of loading a ROM onto your phone via the RUU. RUU: ROM Upgrade Utility, used to Flash a ROM onto your phone. NBH: A file type (.nbh). This is a ROM. Unlocking: The process of making your phone Flashable by custom ROMs. Relocking: The process of going from an Unlocked state a Locked state. OS: Operating System, this is the main part of your phone, Windows Mobile, including the kernel, drivers, programs and interface. SPL: The bootloader of your phone. This loads the OS. SSPL: Soft-SPL, a modified SPL that is loaded for a short time in order to write an HSPL. HSPL: Hard-SPL, a modified SPL that is written over the original SPL in order to Unlock your phone. Security Unlocked: THIS HAS NOTHING TO DO UNLOCKING YOUR PHONE. This has to do with the radio of your phone, and will always be there (refer to pictures in tutorial). Radio: This is usually refered to as the software on your phone, (that is not normally touched when flashing a custom ROM unless specifically stated, but is included in shipped ROMs) that controls the communication between your phone and the cell phone towers. Different Radios will usually provide different levels of signal, battery life, and, due to a combination of both, overheating of your phone. Unlocking Your Phone: This is a guide on how to unlock your phone, the first thing some of you will do when you open the box! If you did not just get this phone, BACKUP ANYTHING YOU DON'T WANT TO LOSE. This will reset your phone to the way it was fresh out of the box... but unlocked. 1. Open the box to your nice new HTC Touch Diamond. If you've already used your diamond, you should do a Hard Reset before continuing (see below). 2. Download and install Activesync (XP) or MWMDC (Vista). 3. Ensure that you have .NET Framework 3.5 (Will be in add/remove software). 4. Connect your Diamond to your PC via the USBmini cable. 5. After a few seconds Activesync will pop up and start the Setup Wizard, IGNORE THIS. 6. Download Diamond Unlocker.zip (also attached to this thread) 7. Open the Diamond Unlocker.zip and drag the Diamond Unlocker FOLDER to your desktop. 8. Run Diamond Unlocker.exe located in the folder. 9. Your phone may or may not ask you if you want to run "EnterBootloader.exe",if it does, click Yes. 10. You have to click Next a bunch of times on your PC in the Rom Update Utility. 11. Your phone will goto a tri-colour screen and should say SSPL0.43.CMONEX at the top. SSPL 12. The phone will restart again and is now Unlocked! 13. You can check that it is Unlocked by entering the Bootloader (Power+VolumeDown and hold down Reset)(Locked and Unlocked) 14. Please Donate to Cmonex. http://www.paypal.com/en_US/i/btn/btn_donate_LG.gif no2chem, ghettofreeryder and myself worked for a very long time with her to get this right, and she deserves to be thanked. Also, thank you to CNeufeld and Loginatnine for the original dumps of this phone. Also, you can enter the BootLoader at any time by pressing Power+VolumeDown and holding down Reset until it appears. Relocking Your Phone: This is only here for informational purposes. By no means do you need to relock your phone unless you're taking it back to the store. 1. Follow the Unlocking procedure to install the necessary programs (.Net 3.5 and syncing program). 2. Download the Diamond Relocker (also attached at the bottom of this post). 3. Open the .rar and drag the Diamond Relocker folder to a convenient place. 4. Run the RomUpdateUtility.exe 5. Enjoy your relocked phone. (Locked) Hard Resetting Your Phone: Hard Resetting your phone will delete all information on the main storage of the phone, reverting your phone to the initial settings of whatever ROM you are running. There are two main methods: 1. Power + VolumeDown + Enter (circle button) and hold down Reset until the white screen appears, then press VolumeUp to Hard Reset. 2. Goto Start > Settings > System > Clear Storage. You can then choose to Clear Storage, Format internal storage only (the 4GB memory), or Clear storage and format internal storage. Once you've made your choice, type in 1234 to the box at the bottom, and then click Yes. ROM Guides: For BASIC Users: Flash A ROM From A Computer (ROMUpdateUtility): 1. BACKUP ANYTHING YOU DON'T WANT TO LOSE 2. Download the Diamond RUU. 3. Download your choice of ROM (see the list below). 4. If it is in a .rar compressed folder, extract it. The end result should be a .nbh file (usually called RUU_Signed.nbh). 5. Drag the RUU_Signed.nbh file into the RUU folder. 6. Run the Rom Upgrade Utility.exe. 7. Follow the prompts on screen. 8. Restore any backed up information. 9. Enjoy your new ROM! Flash A ROM From Internal Storage: This is accomplished by placing a ROM named DIAMIMG.nbh on the internal storage and then entering Triggered Bootloader. Here are more detailed instructions: 1. BACKUP ANYTHING YOU DON'T WANT TO LOSE 2. Download your choice of ROM (see the list below). 3. If it is in a .rar compressed folder, extract it. The end result should be a .nbh file (usually called RUU_Signed.nbh). 4. Rename RUU_Signed.nbh as DIAMIMG.nbh. 5. Transfer DIAMIMG.nbh to the root of your internal storage. 6. Ensure that the file DIAMIMG.nbh is located on the internal storage of your device. (May need to disconnect from computer if you are in Disk Mode and/or select Menu > Show All Files in File Explorer) 7. Enter Triggered Bootloader. (Power + VolumeDown + Back and hold down Reset) 8. You should see a grey screen with blue text listing all of the aspects of the ROM. (At least one of: Bootloader, Splash1, Splash2, Radio, OS. Usually only OS.) 9. You are now given the option to press the Power button to start the update, or the Action button (circle) to cancel. (Press the power button) 10. If all goes well, the progress bar will reach 100% and the ROM Update will be complete, you then must reset the device. (Press the reset button or pull the battery) 11. Restore any backed up information. 12. Enjoy your new ROM! Available ROM List: Shipped ROMs (direct download): These ROMs are Official HTC ROMs that have been made publically available or leaked. Note: These will change your Radio, OS and Splash Screens.
Some have tons of applications, barely any applications, only certain applications. Also read the CE OS 5.2.XXXXX version as well as the Build XXXXX version. These are the main components of the operating system and will have a great impact on performance (in most cases). For ADVANCED Users: Try building your own ROM! Use the How To: Kitchens tutorial! Upgrade Your Splash: For those of you who are tired of that old HTC Diamond splash screen (when you first turn on the phone), try THIS new one! - (Picture) The picture is designed so that the bottom text is only visible from certain angles and/or certain brightnesses. It's pretty sweet. Simply follow the BASIC Users instructions, using the link as your RUU_Signed.nbh. I finally decided to make a Stock Splash. It can be found HERE. (Picture) Dump My ROM: 1. Download Dump My ROM. 2. Connect your phone to your computer! 3. Transfer EnableRapi.cab to your phone and click on it to install it. This step may or may not be needed, so you can skip it, but if this doesn't work, you'll have to come back and do it. 4. With your phone still connected, run Partition Addresses.bat. 5. A File named Partition.Addresses.txt should be created containing some very important information. Here is what this file should look like: Code:
Copying \itsutils.dll to WCE:\windows\itsutils.dll Once you have these, you need to have some basic text editing skills. 6. Right click on Dump My Phone.bat and click edit. You should now see a file that looks like this: Code:
@Echo off 7. Replace the addresses in Dump My Phone.bat with those from Partition.Addresses.txt. 8. Save this newly edited file. 9. Run Dump My Phone.bat. This step will take quite a while (as it has to transfer the data from your phone). Once it is done, you should have two files: Part01.raw and Part02.raw. 10. RAR these files, and upload them somewhere (megaupload is nice, or the ftp here). 11. Let us know! Let me know if I made any mistakes or think something should be added (obviously excluding the kitchen tutorial). Also, I DO know how to embed images, I chose not because they would crowd the text, if you want to see the picture, click on the link, it's easy. Problems? RECOVER A DIAMOND THATS STUCK ON THE BOOT SCREEN If you found this tutorial helpful, please donate (after donating to Cmonex). https://www.paypal.com/en_US/i/btn/btn_donateCC_LG.gif |
Re: How To: Unlocking, Flashing, and Kitchens
Thank you so much tobey!
A few questions: 1) Kitchens are usually made by elite users like yourself. This is usually the base OS. Much like the TELUS OS that's shipped by default, except with tweaks etc that will make it easy for other "cookers" (again, elitos like yourself) to cook a new ROM with new apps builtin, etc. Right? 2) It's important that we unlock before flashing a new ROM/kitchen. However, after flashing a new ROM/Kitchen and then let's say we try another ROM/Kitchen, do we try to unlock again? Or once unlocked, forever unlocked? 3) Cmonex sounds really hot. Is she? Thanks again! |

Re: How To: Unlocking, Flashing, and Kitchens
You can't just install programs on your phone, get it the way you like it... then share it with everyone, no.
As said above, you have to use a kitchen, not overly difficult, but it takes a while to perfect certain things... find out what registry entries to make to do those things that you just press a button for on the phone. Hense the usually small number of ROMs, most of which are based off other peoples. A lot of people will use the same Kitchen, (soon to be ghetto's (with a few additions from me)) and then customize the ROM the way they want it. Then they upload it here because if they want it like that, there's probably a few other people who would like something very similar. There will be a lot of stripped down ROMs, overly bloated ROMs, and fairly customized ROMs soon, but no is the answer to your question:P |

Now for the long answer, reasoning, and theory behind it. I personally dont own the diamond yet, but every other WinMo device I have owned I have been able to change that banner (sometimes called the operator name or something like that) using a program called Personalizer - then i found a post in this thread here and changed it permanently thru QPST. Now here's the kicker, since I dont personally own the diamond, I dont know for sure if the Personalizer program will work on the device, and of course have never got the chance to plan with the device in QPST. I know Juggalo_X did some playing in QPST, and here is the thread about that, but that's another topic and may not even be needed to access service programming... So while i'm sure it's possible to accomplish this task, i dont know the level of difficulty that will be involved offhand... |

Works Perfectly! Phonecalls, data and all!!!! ANYONE WITH A SPRINT DIAMOND: HARD RESET BEFORE DOIN THIS AND IT WILL WORK! AND DO NOT LET CUSTOMIZATIONS RUN!!! man, i'm glad i didn't Chuck-Up anything lol i will try ghettotobey rom in a couple days and see which i like... Thanks for everyones input! |

If you actually look at the pictures in step number 13, you'll see that both unlocked and lock states say security unlocked. The only way your phone is unlocked is if it says CMONEX.

Re: How To: Unlocking, Relocking, and Flashing
Ensure that you have .NET Framework 3.5 (Will be in add/remove software).A very good idea to read. I've been getting frustrated for a few hours because none of the unlocking procedures was working. So I re-read the instructions and went through each one carefully. Lo and behold, I didn't have .NET3.5 installed. What a surprise- I just had to reload Windows and after all the updates, that wasn't included. I thought I'd have some good news after downloading and installing, but I'm still getting the same error. I never get past 0% after it starts to update. Nothing changes on the device. ERROR [202]: CONNECTION I'm going to reboot the computer and the Diamond and see if that helps. ---------------- Reset Diamond and PC. .NET3.5 installed. I'm stumped. -------------- Don't know what I did differently, but after a few more attempts, it seems to have worked. Strange. I got to the point where it says it was security unlocked, but my device information is still there. Is that possible? And when I just tried to flash the new Juicy ROM, it failed. |

Re: How To: Unlocking, Relocking, and Flashing
I'm currently uploading four files to the FTP.
1. Telus Shipped ROM, full name: _HTC Touch Diamond (TELUS)_VICTOR_C_TELUS_WWE_1.10.661.41_RS_1.04.05V _NV_1.45_PRL08085_Ship.exe. 2. New Telus Stock ROM, OS extraction of the above shipped ROM (only OS, no Radio, SPL or Splash Screens). 3. Sprint Shipped ROM, full name: RUU_VICTOR_C_SPRINT_WWE_PPST_1.09.651.5_Radio_1.00 .00F_NV_1.44_Ship.exe. 4. New Sprint Stock ROM, OS extraction of the above shipped ROM (only OS, no Radio, SPL or Splash Screens). I have also deleted the old versions as they were not actually stock, but compiled ROMs by us (some of the more experienced), and did not, in fact, have completely stock components. These file should be ready in the morning, if they're not, please don't complain, they'll be ready when they're in the first post. |

I'd like to be able to have my email settings, Device information and User Information put back after flashing. Aside from a total backup, is it possible to just transfer over one or more of the files in the root folder (like I can with pim.vol)? Some of them look promising...

DO NOT USE THIS IF YOU HAVE GSM DEVICE PERIOD! GSM meaning you have a sim card and your carrier is ATT, T-MOBILE, VODAFONE, ORANGE, Swisscom, etc. It might just sink in for the 5% of users that are just not understanding this. Just a thought since there are at least two a month, if not more that are bricking their devices. |
