Re: Sprint Everything Data does not allow tethering
As long as unlimited PHONE data is covered in the plan, a touch pro2 with the proper software (HTC's Mobile WIFI, others) will not require additional tethering fees. This is how I understood it, am I correct in assuming this?

This makes no since at all. No matter what I do I am stick with paying a much higher monthly bill or having to pay a premium up front to keep the phone. |

If you want the TP2 and moment on the same family plan you have to change to the new family plan. If you want them on different plans the TP2 will work on any plan. |

Re: Sprint Everything Data does not allow tethering
The only reason they say it is required to have an everything data plan is because the phone has so many programs that connect to the internet and if you don't have an everything data plan, you run the risk of large phone bills from data communications. I'm sure they have delt with mad customers enough to just say it is required now. It really isn't though, if you are deligent and turn off you data in the communications settings, then you won't have to worry about anything. On a side note, don't get the simply everything plan unless you call a lot of land lines. The everything data 450 is plenty for most people since it is unlimited mobile to mobile. Pretty much everyone I talk to is on a mobile phone, My anytime minutes barely go over 30 min a month now. I wish they had a Everything data 150 plan or something for $20 cheaper.

Re: Sprint Everything Data does not allow tethering
I have to chime in here also. I have been a Sprint customer for over 10 years and I am on an old Fair and Flexible Family Plan with free unlimited texing, data, picture mail etc., 2 lines, 800 shared minutes for under $70 a month.
I sucessfully activated my TP2 online under this very plan, so you don't need to be on an everything data plan for WinMo phones but you do need to have an unlimited data add-on. |

All of us Old Sero users are technically on a F&F as well, however if i understand right this persons problem is that he is already on one of the new "Everything" branded plans. There is no way sprint is gonna let him switch back to an older plan now, even though he is such a long term loyal customer. The new "everything" plans charge alot more for that the f&f's for essentially the same thing. But this guys problem isnt really a old versus new thing it is a data plan vs a non data plan and since sub zero is an employee no one know better than him that a data plan is not required for the tp2. @Scottharris When i bought my touch pro 2 i met some resistance as well. they told me no tp2 on my current plan. I assured them that i had been using windows mobile on my touch for years on my plan and that the touch pro 2 had to be allowed as well. edit: after rereading your post it kinda sounds like you somehow already accepted the new plans? and that is why your bill went up. If that is the case i dont think sprint will let you out of them. edit: as it has been said before you dont need to worry about tethering as long as you can funnel data through your phone they guys here and over at xda-developers can make tethering work. Not sure how helpful it is but i activated my tp2 through the sprint website by just entering a few numbers from my box so if you could just get the phone maybe you could put it on your plan yourself

I do not have a TP2 yet. I was looking to get one but was told by Sprint that it falls under the same rules as and would require the Everything Data plan. It appears from this post that is not the case. I was also told that if I went to Everything Data plan and was found to be using the phone as modem that they could cancel my contract for violations. I do not know how they could do that or even how they would know but it is what I was told. Maybe I jumped the gun by talking the phone back but I have gotten so many conflicting stories from Sprint I do not know what to believe any more. I just know that I am quite disappointed because my wife has been asking for new phone for months to do texting, email, web, and run some programs and I had to take it back because I cannot afford $60-$120 a month increase in my bill just to keep the same functionality. The only options I could find was to do the data plan and get an air card or take the phone back. |
