I'd be kind of disappointed about this, honestly. Less competition amongst U.S. GSM providers.

Re: sprint / t-mobile merger...takeover?

This would be a prefect example of poor decisions that Sprint sometimes makes. Unlike other carriers, Sprint tends to buy other companies that do not run their phones on the same network CDMA. Verizon bought Alltel, both CDMA... AT&T bought Cingular both GSM... Sprint bought Nextel both CDMA, oh wait... no... one CDMA one iDEN and they've had a huge problem trying to integrate the two networks... they also bought Virgin Pay As You Go CDMA...

C'mon Sprint, spend some money and get me some 3G here in Abilene!

Sorry, AT&T is GSM, not CDMA. Just clarifying your "facts".

AT&T did not buy Cingular, It was Cingular (Southwestern Bell and Bell South partnership) that bought AT&T Wireless first from MaBell, then SBC bought Bell South, Pacific Bell then swallowed MaBell at last, then finally, SBC renamed itself AT&T to complete the cycle that started back in 1983.

As far as I'm concerned all the Bells are the same company, even if they were "demonopolized" ha ha

YW. And Dan Hesse recently admitted openly that the Nextel purchase was a mistake. Of course I think we all can see that now. Maybe T-Mob is looking for a quick and easy way into the 3G & 4G market. Who knows what drives this kind of thinking.

Re: sprint / t-mobile merger...takeover?

Every time I hear this it just ****ing confuses me....did they not learn anything from nextel?

Sprint(CDMA) and Nextel(iDEN) company merges, 2 completely different technology types.....instead of either completely eliminating nextel, they support it, but discontinue WiDEN and completely canabalize Nextel. Have you seen Nextel phones? Its like they are from 2003 still, and iDEN internet is slower then EDGE....

Do we really need to even think about this?

A quad band gsm world phone, that also have Tmobile 3G support, that also EVDO support, and Wimax support......so many radios....
