Eligible for Alltel Upgrade in Oct, Can I switch to Verizon?

My contract with Alltel isn`t up until Febuary, but I am eligible for a device upgrade in October if I renew a 2 year contract. I am wondering if I will be able to simply switch over to Verizon then. I really don`t like Alltel so signing another contract is out of the question, and it is to expensive to break contract with 3 lines on my account.
