LG Incite

Ok, so I have an At&t LG Incite that is unlocked. I called Sprint and asked them to register the Incite so I can use that instead of my Blackberry Curve. They asked me for the DEC number on the back of the phone and I told her that there wasn't a DEC number, only an IMEI number and an S/N number as it is an AT&T phone. So she said that I can't use that phone as it is not a Sprint or a Nextel phone. Now I also read on the internet that Sprint will be adding the LG Incite to their list of phones to buy in a couple of days.

Now my question is this; if my LG Incite phone is unlocked, shouldn't it be available to use with any carrier? I mean, I know that a GSM phone is different from a CDMA phone and what have you, but isn't there a way so that I can use this Incite phone that I have?
