So everyone knows about the Alltel/Verizon Merger.
I have an Alltel HTC Touch Diamond. I love that phone. It's the best in the world...

My Alltel phone broke about three weeks ago... So I called 611 to ask them to replace it. They said they would be more than happy to, but I had to go to a Verizon store to verify my problem before they sent me one. (after like 6 trips/calls) I got my new phone in the mail. I got the Verizon version and messed with it for a bit and realized that it was missing some major features that I use every day on my Alltel verison. (100 megs ram, and gps mainly)

To make a really long story short, I *****ed and *****ed (18 different contacts with them) and ended up finally getting an Alltel replacement phone.

A few days ago, My phone no longer received texts/email/internet. It's because the towers in my area were upgraded to the new software which renders alltel phones useless.

I called up Verizon and they said that I needed a VZW Phone.

I told them this was unacceptable and filed a complaint with the BBB.

Here is what they replied:

So it's very clear that Verizon has no intentions of actually resolving the issue with out me being screwed. I told them that it was unfair that they did this and that I feel as if I was crooked... and some how the complaint "magically" was closed.

Now I'm curious. What the hell are us Alltel Customers supposed to do? I love my HTC Diamond from Alltel. I did not want verizon when I signed up a year ago. That's why I signed up for Alltel. I don't think its fair for Verizon to do this to us... We shouldn't have to settle for something worse than what we had in the first place.

Maybe I'm over reacting, but I like being able to use google maps and not pay 10 bucks a month for vzw navigator.

I like having a responsive and usable phone. I don't like having something that has a memory leak and every time you load a program it stays residual in the memory causing the phone to lock up and hang. :-\

verizon should be able to allow all alltel phones on the vZw network...

i have a htc sprint touch diamond on vzw. i did it before vzw changed the *228 wa of doing it.... change msl to 000000 and placing a vzw prl on the phone and then doing *228 option 3

Alltel phones work fine on verizion towers.
There not gonna make everyone using an Alltel phone have to go buy a new phone.
You have a phone issue, not a service issue.

You are so wrong. I actually have two HTC Touch Diamonds. They both are not receiving texts. And when I say both, I mean each individual phone activated separately. I even called Verizon and they said an Alltel Smart Phone will not work on the Verizon network once the merger is complete.

They won't force everyone to go buy a new one, they are just going to do a FRU on them all.

Yes. I tried *228.

I also tried Alltel's rom, Groovy rom, Mighty rom, juicy rom, and two different alltel diamonds. It's not the phone. It's the network.

Couldn't one load the Verizon ROM on the Alltel, then all would be good? (Has someone built a verizon Diamond ROM yet?)

I've been through something similar. I had an alltel touch pro converted to verizon. It may seem like a hassle but I have to ask have you been able to make/receive calls on any device? Like a verizon device or alltel device? Did you update the prl to match a verizon prl, eri, and dmu?
Finally if you did all that, is it your line? My phone cannot get past 1x because evdo won't authenticate on the device (actually on ALL of my phones). It could be quite a few things but try and convert that alltel phone to verizon by adding the prl, eri, and stuff...it could help

Not sure why you are surprised. It is Verizon, the same company that strips out and disables features and then over charges you to use them. Switch to sprint! ;)

I'm pretty sure you're at least allowed to break your contract now, without having to pay a penalty, since you are impacted negatively financially with them not providing the service that you originally contracted to (gps included in your monthy fees vs having to pay extra).

All i can say is VZW is a blood thirsty sucking leeches!!
Glad I moved to Sprint with SERO ($30/month) loving it since then and never want to switch back to VZW.

Alltel phones should work on verizon and I would suggest updating your contract with Alltel cause you can keep Alltel up to 2012 I think(thats what I'm doing) So your Alltel phone will work anyways. Verizon has no good data plan is why I'm staying for the price of my account now I would get same features but instead of unlimited data I would only get 5gb. So I would suggest to update your contract if you like them you'll still get same service as if you had verizon just must better plan!

How would i go about activating an alltel diamond on my verizon account?
I called a while ago wondering if it was possible and the person said no, yet i know theres a way to do it. Could someone link me to a post? i searched and couldnt find anything on the alltel diamond to verizon

I'm not converting it... They converted for me.

I had this alltel phone on the alltel network. Because of the merger and I'm in the Norfolk, VA Market, our markets have merged, and I'm now officially Verizon.

Yes.. I've tried everything. They want me to go to their phone because it's more money for them. (They get to change my plan too if i go to their phone)

Yes I did.

Can't upgrade. We are no longer Alltel. We're sucked into Verizon now.

ROMs do make a difference as far as programs and features, but not the actual radio.

All you Sprint "fanboys", go post somewhere else. If switching to Sprint was a legit option, I'm sure the OP would have already done it.................

By the way, I have used both Sprint & my current VZ service & no way will I ever go back to Sprint......

You get upset about some pretty dumb stuff. We all have choices and can go to any phone company that we choose to and there is nothing wrong with someone offering advice from their experiences. I personally would not choose Sprint or Verizon because they are both raping the public. If I had to choose between the two I would choose Sprint because Verizon seems to think that there can be only one (kinda like Highlander) and has cut the head off of Alltel and sucked up their power and now EVERYONE has been left with less choices thanks to power hungry Verizon. Seems as though most of the VIP people on here have and attitude and think that what they say is gospel and there should be no choices other than what they want. Yeah I said it so what.

I see, Since I have only been here for a short period there is NO WAY I can see what is going on. Don't even try and pull that with me. I have been watching these forums and the Howard forums for over a year now and you guys have no tolerance for a what you consider to be a dumb noob question or someone that asks a question more than once. You were there at one time and you know it so don't be a hypocrite and show a little more understanding sometimes. Some of these people have never even seen a windows mobile phone before and have no idea even what a cab is. Yeah I said it again.

i would be upset that being with alltel and then getting a vzw diamond since it does not have the same specs, like ram, cpu, internal storage.... the closet phone vzw has would be the Omani granted that has 16gb internal storage and transflash...

my sister has alltel and said that verizon will grandfather your plan but you will have to buy a verizon phone once the merger is official. please don't shoot the messenger!

we do have understanding, but when there's the same question over and over and over and over, and no one searches, then there's no toleration for that. obviously you don't follow very well.
and pull what with you? you just got an account this month, within the past 4 days.... therefore you didn't even download anything from this site before then, so I don't see how you could truly follow what's on this site.....

I use to be a huge advocate for helping them out, and trying to point them to the right spot, etc etc, but I'm tired of it.
I use to just post them the links to the other million threads of the same question that has different solutions in each one of them,
told them the keywords I used to search, that way they could see how I searched for them and compare to their keywords to help them out in their searching in the future.
and they would only complain that I didn't copy and past the solutions into their thread or yell at me for it.
so there's no tolerance for it.

I won't let them give me a verizon TP over my un-gimped alltel TP.
Not going to happen.
If they do, they will pay me my $ back for the phone, full retail,
and then cancel my contract, and give me $ to compensate for my time/trouble/lost business due to the number change when I have to go to another carrier.
I don't get screwed over like most, I do the screwing.

no way am I getting a new phone, not my problem they finally decided to do the merger after owning alltel for 3 years.

Even if I don't get anywhere the fact is that I have drawn attention to this subject and people have seen it. They have seen the reaction that I have gotten and can tell what's going on here. I'm sorry that it is this way.

This seems like a prime instance where you can break your contract with no ramification. You would be able to go try out every carrier available in your region for 30 days and go where you will from there. Verizonis pretty much out to screw you and, speaking purely from a fiscal perspetive, getting the hell out of there right now seems to be your best bet. I'm not saying switch to Sprint, just to get the hell out of Verizon. You should be able to take your Altell Diamond to any other CDMA carrier and get that beast back on the prowl. I hope this works out for you, bro. This is some B*S* and you don't deserve to come out underneath their bright red boots of injustice.

COOL! i just finished chatting with a verizon rep this is what he said when i told him i wanted to activate an alltel diamond!

Gregory: you would not be able to activate that phone on the Verizon network because it runs on a different program from our CDMA network, you can get service with us and get a phone that would work on our network.

Is he ****ing joking? haha those reps make me laugh, gonna have to call when i get back in the US
